Yep. I hope when we get to the end they will show a montage of all the little things that would have given away The Answers if we had noticed them at the time. That would be very cool.

Q. Why did the smoke monster cross the island?

A.
To get to the Others' side.
Big Grin

You can get this riddle on a T-shirt, btw, and I just might have to do that. It's here.

And since you're probably already smiling, check out these "Simpsons-ized" LOST characters. The artist's comments are as good as his cartoons. Cool

If Jacob was using the form of the dog Vincent, wouldn't that mean that the dog was dead? Now that Jacob is dead, Vincent wouldn't be with Rose and her husband on the beach any longer. I think?? LOL

He is still listed in the credits ... an article in Entertainment Weekly said that he will be back despite the sexual harrassment charges filed by a crew member on the set.

The world is full of idiots ... It's up to you to not be one of them.

Vincent might be dead, but I don't really believe that. He was either let out of his kennel by someone intentionally or a fortuitous chain of events led to some airline employee either not securing the kennel door thoroughly or bumping it so that it wasn't fastened completely. Either way, it would then be plausible that the kennel door opened on impact or Vincent was able to push it open when the plane crashed. Let's assume that however it happened, Vincent did indeed survive the crash and was able to swim ashore.

It also isn't necessarily the case that he would need to be dead for Jacob to take Vincent's shape in order to interact with the Losties. At this point we don't really know if Jacob has been doing this at all, with Vincent or anyone else.

Again, let's assume for simplicity that both Christian (Jack's father) and Locke really are dead.

We know (or at least think we know) that the MIB is now taking the form of Locke, but not his physical body because we saw both UnLocke and Locke's body in the same scene.

When Christian spoke to Locke in the cabin and at the Frozen Donkey Wheel he claimed to speak for Jacob. But I don't think we can believe that because what he told Locke to do set up the events that led to Locke being killed and allowing the MIB to take Locke's form and thus manipulate Ben into killing Jacob.

So it seems that the two known cases of the dead being used as vessels, it appears to be only the MIB doing so.

Maybe Jacob doesn't need his vessel to be dead in order to use it. That would fit with the apparent good vs evil paradigm we have with Jacob vs MIB.

In thinking about this more, I can see three possibilities for how Jacob might "become" Vincent.

1. Jacob is able to assume Vincent's shape which has absolutely no effect whatsoever on the real Vincent. So long as they aren't in the same place at the same time, no one would ever know there are sometimes two Vincents around.

2. Jacob is able to project part of his consciousness into Vincent's mind and take control for a time. Vincent may or may not be aware of what's going on, but it doesn't hurt him any.

3. Jacob himself is walking around amongst the Losties but they can't see or hear him. Vincent CAN see and hear him and he does whatever Jacob tells him to do - lead Hurley to the DHARMA van, pull the blanket off the not-really-dead Nikki and Paulo, etc.

Or I might be completely wrong about all of this and Vincent is just a dog. A LUCKY dog, but just a dog. :p

But that doesn't feel right. Maybe Vincent is connected to Jacob. Maybe he's connected to the island itself or some other yet-unknown entity behind the events we've seen so far.

Whatever it may be, I'm convinced that there is something special about Vincent. We shall see.

Maybe he's on Widmore's sub?

Desmond and Widmore working together??? That would be something.

I like your Vincent theories Webby. But I'm thinking now that Jacob isn't really dead. He wants everyone to think he's dead. But...after Ben stabbed Jacob..Ben pushed Jacob into the fire...he then "dissolved" rather quickly into that ash in the fire pit. I don't buy it...I think Jacob is still around...in one form or the other. :dontknow:

Wouldn't it? I can see it if Widmore somehow convinced Desmond that Penny's and little Charlie's lives depended on it. Otherwise, not likely, lol.

I agree about Jacob. I'm not 100% convinced that he's dead either.

Maybe we're supposed to assume that he just disintegrated into ash like a classic movie vampire does when it gets killed, but that just seems too easy for LOST.

I think I figured out something else too. I think I know what that sound is that the smoke monster makes...

First, I need to say that I got Mr. Webby hooked on the show also this past weekend. I rented the first two discs of Season 1 for us to watch together on the good tv with the good sound system. I figured if he didn't like it after 8 episodes, he never would. But he did like it. Yay! He actually said it was more like watching a good movie than a tv show. Cool So I've ordered the complete sets of seasons 1 - 3 and I'll get 4 - 6 in a few weeks.

Anyway, the point is that I re-watched the first few episodes but this time with a high-end stereo sound system. After hearing the smoke monster a couple of times, there was a flashback to Kate and the marshall just before the plane crash. As the plane started shaking, rattling and breaking apart in the flashback, it hit me. THAT is what the smoke monster sounds like!

The sound it somewhat distorted when it's coming from Smokie, but it is the sound of tortured, tearing metal and all manner of airplane parts breaking loose and ripping away.

Does it mean anything? Who knows. I just feel better for believing I've identified that sound because it always bothered me before. I knew it didn't sound human or animal but I couldn't figure out what the hell it did sound like.

That sounds like my parents. On wednesdays my mom and I will discuss Lost while my dad is at a complete loss as to what we're talking about. But my dad watches NCIS.

Anyway, maybe the flash-sideways are just a convenient device for Sawyer to sleep with the women he missed out on during the previous seasons. And working in the LAPD I kept expecting Ana Lucia to show up. Or Ana Lucia's mom.

Here's some interesting links:

Geronimo Jack's Beard is a podcast done by Jorge Garcia. It doesn't have any upcoming spoilers and they seem to go out of their way to make sure they don't include any. The episode with Michael Emmerson was fun.

Never Seen Lost is a blog written by someone who has never seen Lost and started watching season 6 with no prior knowledge of the show. It's hilarious at times. Go Team Jacob!

Now who would have thought...Sawyer as a cop? I sure didn't. Miles...yeah I could see him as a cop...with his talent for talking with the dead.

I'm still waiting to see Desmond on the island....and a flash side ways of Fareday.

Next week we get Richard's story. Out of all the characters...his has me wondering all sorts of things.
