I've noticed this a few times with other movies. Maybe it's just a PITA ad strategy? Force us to watch them in hopes we'll see something of interest and rent it. If I'm not mistaken - and I am far too often - I think I solved this issue by hitting STOP twice, then the menu button, and it bypassed the previews. Been a while since I did that but I think it worked. My memory isn't too good.

That is annoying as all get out. If anything it makes me less likely to want to watch anything it is advertising since it is forced.

Maybe the movie I was watching just didn't have the previews completely "forced." Like I said, was a good while back. Pretty sure it worked. If I had a dvd like that I could just sit here and experiment. Luckily I don't have one.

But I love little challenges like this. So...

- If you normally watch dvd on your PC there is a media player called VLC that can allow you to skip through all that forced junk.

- On your stand alone dvd player, have you tried jumping to the main title using the remote option for title listing?

- How about using the display button (or whichever button brings up the timer) on the remote and entering a time that corresponds to the end of the current title's length or maybe 10 minutes ahead if it's tied into the movie title? That might skip to the end of the previews and to the main menu.

Hmmm, that worked on some of the kids DVDs that force the previews but there is still a couple I tried it didn't work on. The PBS kids show "Caillou" is one of them that it didn't work on. Hehe, I think I will just stick to doing like Scott mentioned, putting it in way early and then coming back to it when we are ready to start it.

And I would like to thank you for bringing up Jeremy Brett. I am in the process of obtaining all his Holmes episodes and I have enjoyed every one of them so far. And you were also right to say that no one can compare.

I have a couple of Holmes shows starring Peter Cushing. He's not too damn bad at all, but lacks those little mannerisms that Brett gave to the character which made him Holmes.
