1. The everyman look
2. US and Overseas Box Office appeal
3. Relatively unknown

How bout District 9's Sharlto Copley who will very soon appear as Howlin' Mad Murdoch. Overseas? I think he has some of that covered. One problem... he's in his late 30's...
You forgot:

5. is between 28 and 32 years old (so he can do 10 or so movies over the next 15 years and still pass for 38 in Nightworld).

Axioms Jack seems to live by (inadvertantly or not):

Why he does what he does: "I chose this life. I know what I'm doing. And on any given day, I could stop doing it. Today, however, isn't that day. And tomorrow won't be either." Bruce Wayne, Identity Crisis

On Rasalom: "Water's wet, the sky is blue...and good old Satan Claus, Jimmy...he's out there...and he's just gettin' stronger." Joe Hallenbeck, The Last Boyscout

All these actors FAIL on Requirement 5.

Heh!

Seriously, though, I'm liking Irish's "Conditions for Jack" as long as my number 5 is tacked on...after all, Irish himself suggested it was a condition when he stated that late 30s was possibly a problem...so I guess it's mine AND Irish's 5th condition.

Joshua Jackson is 31 and he certainly looks younger. I'm fairly certain that if he were chosen for the roll of Jack, he'd look just fine when the Nightworld move rolled around.

Also, a dab of movie makeup goes a damn long way when it comes to making someone look younger or older in movies. So I stand my my choice of Joshua Jackson.

5 is added. The reason that was not on the list was because I just considered it a given. But i think there is an exception to the rule. Yeah Jeremy Renner is in his late thirties but to me the guy doesn't look it. He looks like he is in his early thirties. In '95, he was 24 and played a high school senior. Either way I do agree with you on the conditions and the addition on the 5th. I'll write up the paperwork.

My apology, Dom. I remembered my fellow Canuck's, Joshua's, age wrong.

So, given that hurdle is cleared, let's look at the rest, shall we?

1. Good...what's his build like?
2. Not so good.
3. Maybe too well known between Dawson's Creek and Fringe...undecided.
4. Haven't seen his "angry" except for Cursed (2005) but that particular performance wasn't terribly impressive.
5. Check.

Now, lets compare that to someone like Sam Worthington:

1. Check...and has the body for the part.
2. Check.
3. (Prior to Avatar) check.
4. Maaaaaybe...the jury's still out. Can do grim though.
5. A little on the old side, at 34.

Or to Ryan Reynolds:

1. Check, but a little on the pretty side...and has the body for the part.
2. Sort-of.
3. Not really.
4. Yes, although some have knocked his ability to do "angry"
5. A little on the old-side at 34.

If they film the movie this year, there are better candidates than Joshua...in 2011 the current favourites will be too old and his stock goes up.
