Yeah . . . right.

Being a shill for Barnes and Noble is proof?

Proof of what exactly?

That you can't find a job anywhere else?

Now, Ken, I would have thought you'd admire a man--Len Riggio--who started one store as a college man and built it into a multi-billion dollar business, a Fortune 500 company.

Isn't that free enterprise at its best?

I met him in June. He was at an event at my store, and I introduced meself. "Len--I'm Mike Lindner. I take care of Performing Arts here. Became a 25-year man last month."

"Wow, that's great, Mike! Thanks! We couldn't do it without guys like you."

My thought balloon: "Give me everything in your wallet."

His thought balloon: "What a chump."

He's right.

I go where I get the best, most competent service, and that's Borders.

There's a B&N less than a block away, but I never go there because of the incompetence of the B&N employees.

I suppose in the atmosphere of Absurdistan, even B&N booksellers degenerate.

But enjoy Borders while you can--they are going down for the count.

Here's the kind of guy Len Riggio is--Borders lost their bookstore in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Riggio called Borders' chief and said, "We'll hire your booksellers. They'll still have a job."

I call that class. Big-time class.

The nearby Borders is doing better than B&N. Maybe it's bad management, or B&N hires marginal employees.

Sounds like opportunism -- a way to get experienced employees.

As a parallel, the local Blockbuster had the rent raised quite high and it was not economical for them to continue in that location. So Blockbuster relocated all its employees at that store to other nearby stores. I expect Borders could have done the same.

Right. New York City has just experienced a murderous attack, the toll not certain, but thousands dead, every commercial aircraft in the United States is grounded, the carriers John F. Kennedy and George Washington are heading north at war emergency speed, 343 FDNY men gave their lives for their city, there are F-16s in the air over Manhattan. And you say Riggio thought about hiring =experienced booksellers=?

Why can't you just say the obvious?--Riggio did a good thing. "It's bad, but we'll get through. You men and women still got a job, you still got a paycheck coming to take care of your families. We got hit hard, but we'll make it."

I'm not sure either, Aprilis. Believe it or not, back in the days of the Old Board, Ken and I were friends. But the desperado has gotten mean. I can only ascribe it to his vicious envy of my superior power of reason and sweet nature.:pBig GrinWink

Ordinarily, I'd say GROW THE HELL UP, but I know that won't happen.
