My first post and I'm already attempting to blow minds. Well, here goes...

First thing: I'm not sure if this is explained in Nightworld, which I understand is the last Repairman Jack book, before it technically ends. But assuming it's not, here it is: I think Jack is meant to be the Otherness's One. In Harbingers, The Lady says that all the crazy things that happened to Jack's loved ones was the Ally trimming his branches, but I think she was lying. I think it really was the Otherness. Consider: In Conspiracies, Jack has two nightmares, and in one of them the rakoshi kill Gia and Vicky, saying they were cutting Jack's ties to the world, and that he could finally be one of them. And then there were those crates, which I think were really sent to his hotel room because the Otherness wanted him to cross over and become indoctrinated.

Also, in Gateways, all those Everglades people were set to kill Tom. They were obviously being influenced by the Otherness, not the Ally, and they were trying to trim one of Jack's "branches" again. Look at Infernal, where the Lilitongue was first going to take Vicky, then Gia, then Jack himself! If that had happened, I think he would have been sent to the Otherness, cutting all of his branches in one fell swoop.

This kind of thing happens all the time in the Repairman Jack books.

Also, as a side note, I wanted to mention that in The Tomb, just after Jack lights the Mother on fire, it screams something that sounds like "Spa fon!" Could that be "Rasalom"?

Oh, and one more thing. Don't think you can pull a fast one on me, F. Paul Wilson! For those of you who haven't realized every single number- I repeat, EVERY SINGLE NUMBER- in Bloodline is a multiple of seven.

When Jack's dad dies at the airport, instead of feeling good because of the misery, he was dazed, confused and feeling horrible. Also, his moral character is much to good to be otherness related. For one, he doesn't kill or hurt those who don't deserve it. The advasary would not only murder the innocent at the first opportunity, but would love every minute of it. That isn't something Jack would do. Other than the problems discussed, I think your theory is really good. It is mind blowing, but I can't help but hope it is not true. Also, I don't know what 7 has to do with any thing. Is it in the Adversary Circle or something?

Seven doesn't appear to play a part in the Adversary Cycle or the Otherness related stuff in SECRET HISTORY OF THE WORLD as of the ones I've read (stories and novels up to and including Reborn).

In addition, another thing to suggest that Jack is not Otherness affiliated is that, when Rasalom confronts him in Gateways, instead of recognizing him as an enemy (of the Otherness) he would have told him he was a servant...that way he could have immediately started to feed off of the doubt and misery that jack would certainly begin to feel as he came to understand that he would be responsible for the deaths of everyone he held dear, instead of waiting for Harbingers to gloat about his suffering. Reminiscent of Empire..."Search you feelings, Jack...you know it to be true!"

Plus, Rasalom has been the Otherness' tool for uncounted millenia, why have him around, still being ultra powerful if Jack was The One?

Plus the Otherness went through a lot of trouble getting Rasalom Reborn and providing him with an otherness familiar (Conspiracies). Wouldn't that familiar have known that jack was a tool for the Otherness? It knew that Rasalom was was The One. And it also knew that the Ally protected Jack in the basement of the Hotel when it tried to kill Jack.

Plus, there are all the Otherness' servants that Jack has eighty-sixed...you don't see Rasalom going around killing them off.

...interesting theory, but given everything I've read and what I've heard about Nightworld from spoilers (haven't read it yet) it doesn't seem that Jack will turn out to be Otherness affiliated.

Heck, he isn't much affiliated with the Ally either, for that matter. He'd be happiest if he was left alone.

Well, I have to say, after reading "Nightworld" that I thought that Jack WAS NOT "the one" even though the rest of the RJ novels were written AFTER "Nightworld", and this seems to have been an after-thought. Jack tried to use the refurbished sword to kill Rasalom, but it would NOT activate until Glaiken (sp) picked it up and kicked it into action, closing the holes and banishing (or killing) Rasalom altogether. Therefore, Jack cannot be "the one" as it was written.
Also, in "Conspiracies" the pillars that were buried seemed to activate the "holes" in "Nightworld", Right? If so, couldn't Jack somewhere down the line find a way to locate and destoy the remaining pillars? I know that they were deactivated by Glaiken
supposedly, but there was no mention that they were destroyed, or that there was no way the otherness, or some other form of Rasalom could reactivate them.....

[ahem]...We may be talking about different "One" s.

The One I was referring to was the Otherness' one (that would bring about Nightworld), not the Ally's Sentinel or Heir.

I hope this clears up what I was trying to say.

Have fun, and the numbers 3 and 7 are the only magic numbers used in the Grimm's Fairy tales. All of the magic numers are 3 or 7 in fairy tales. I though that your mention if 23 had to do with the horror movie 23.
