Well the ally corrupted Jack's life by killing his mom, so maybe your destiny has an impact in you actions, instead

You'd think that Killing people would make them like you, but it doesn't! it just makes people dead.

But Jack could have acted differantly, that is if you believe in free will. If not, then his destiny has been written and he has no say in the matter. IMO...He was tested and responded in the right way.Wink

Jack's destiny has been written. It's called Nightworld, no? We all know where he's going and whose side he's gonna be on when he gets there. Any other 'tests' that are thrown at him hev pre-determined outcomes.

I accidentally dropped a load of worthless change in the street. I was going to just leave it there but a burly policeman lumbered towards me and said, "You'd better pick that up, son."

I hate coppers.

We know, and the author know, but the corruption and tests are all meant to be before any Nightworldish-ness.

But who's to say that the previous "Nightworld" wasn't in an "Alternate" timeline, or something that, when it is re-written (as in Tomb-Rakoshi) repairman Jack will have
a more positive position for the outcome.
(Also, speaking of "Nightworld", I really wanted
Glaeken's wife to get "reborn" along with him, but of course, I always love a happy ending in every story. I wanted Jack to be "the one" instead of Glaeken, and I wanted Rasalom to be destroyed FOREVER, never to return, and that would be the end of the otherness's interest in this part of the universe
.....But then, that's just ME!! It could be that it is an alternate time line, as you said, like a parallel universe of Jack's world. We know one possible outcome, but a decision somewhere could have caused a split, we know one split, and the new night world is the other.
I also like happy endings, and haven't read nightworld. For the spoiler tag, write: ["spoiler"](the text)[/"spoiler"] but without the quotes, or hightlight the text and click the spoi button at the top of the post-making screen.
like this
Axioms Jack seems to live by (inadvertantly or not):

Why he does what he does: "I chose this life. I know what I'm doing. And on any given day, I could stop doing it. Today, however, isn't that day. And tomorrow won't be either." Bruce Wayne, Identity Crisis

On Rasalom: "Water's wet, the sky is blue...and good old Satan Claus, Jimmy...he's out there...and he's just gettin' stronger." Joe Hallenbeck, The Last Boyscout
