Libby Wrote:Actually, I was pleasently suprised at how clean this site is. Most forums have a bunch of swears and horrid propositions, or at least teenage ones. I have no problem with an occational swear, and that very well my be the case for the other minors on the board. Also, I think that this copyright conversation is very childish, and if either of you want to continue being friendly towards eachother in the future, you may want to stop the escalation of this argument before it gets completely out of hand. I'm really sorry for the harshness, but I think that neither of you want to muck up your friendship.

That pesky Maggers just can't stop sending them! (JOKE OK JOKE BEFORE I GET FLAMED)
Wapitikev Wrote:While I am glad that Bone's needless profanity does not offend you, Libby, there is little call for it when discussing such a simple issue. My 2-year old can argue a point without swearing.
I am sure we both appreciate the conciliatory gesture, but Bones is much to sophisticated to listen to such wisdom. And I'm much to stubborn.
Don't worry, I haven't taken Bones off my friends list yet. After all, if we're still friends after all the times he accuses me of killing his parents, then this little dust-up should do little to sour our relationship.
We'll punch each other in the arm and all will be forgiven.

If you make t-shirts from my work and sell them to everybody who wants one, that means I cant sell them for myself.
jimbow8 Wrote:Coincidentally, a friend referred me to an article which says that there's legislation in the works to change exactly this: make it so companies can scavenge pics, etc off of individuals websites and use them for themselves ..... and then sue you (the originator of the material) for copyright infringement.
I can't find the article, but I'll keep looking.

...as long as you have the authors' permission to use the FPW FAQ you're good to go there.
bones weep tedium Wrote:Who wrote the FPW FAQ? Is there anything in there that we can quickly adapt into wiki articles?
I think that the current state of criminal neglect goes to show how much nit-picking or attention of any kind FPW's books get subjected to over at wikipedia.
Wikipedia is the biggest online encyclopedia and at the top of nearly every google search you'll ever perfrom. It's not perfect, but it's a great place to start.
bones weep tedium Wrote:I don't think you get what Copyright is.
Wikipedia is edited by anyone. if someone wrote something on wikipedia they did so with that knowledge. we can keep/delete/rewrite anything on wikipedia.
We can write whatever we like about Jack and FPW's books and as long as we don't copy any passages that's perfectly legit (FPW has said so himself)
If whomever amongst us who wrote the FAQ says so, we can copy and paste chunks straight from there to wikipedia. But seeing as though the FAQ is freely available to download from this site anyway we could prob get away with doing so without their permission and call it Fair Use. You can't steal something that's already free.
tenebroust Wrote:This is all true of course. I hate to beat a dead horse but there is nothing to stop the megalomaniacal editors from butchering whatever you put in there. In that event there is nothing you can do about it. My main point in bringing this up is just to point that out. No matter what we collectively think should be put in there it is subject to capricious editing. We just have to be aware of that and be prepared if the end result is not what we wanted. Using Wiki is fine but we should also see about putting up the EXACT entries that are wanted elsewhere as well.
