I know this isn't the section to discuss this in, but am I seriously the only
fan of both the book AND the movie? I mean, the movie doesn't compare to the book for me, so I don't compare them. On its own though, it's a good, creepy, wild horror thriller. But as I said, this ain't the place to discuss this, so consider the subject closed.

They have both managed to slip each other's characters in a cameo appearance in one of their novels.

Hey! The Lizard King did a cameo of sorts in "THE STAND". Why not something similar in an F Paul novel?

The book was good; the movie was not as good but still decent.... I didn't like the ending of the movie though.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

Make for an interesting ethical bind if he has to deal with Jack. Kind makes me want to invent a Pendergast of my own and throw the two together.

Still gotta go with a team-up between Andrew Vachss' "Burke" and Jack.

Pleiades Wrote:Actually, there is kind of a character or two already. In "The Long Way Home" Jack is cut loose by a couple of NYC cops (I don't remember their names) who realize that Jack saved a fellow officer, is a stand up guy, and deserves a break. We don't know about their backgrounds, or that of the officer Jack saves, but they could be thrown into the middle of one of Jack's fix-its.

Spoiler alert...
Lieutenant Thomas Caruthers ("Tall dark and handsome. Every woman's crystal ball dream."-FPW) and Detective/Sergeant Charles Evans agreed to cut Jack loose and destroy the evidence of his booking. Patrollman Carella was the policeman that Jack saved. Caruther's kid brother was trapped in a hostage situation...Jack tries to help after Caruthers lets him go, but the kid is already dead when Jack gets there.
Jack said he was leaving Evans his number in case he or Caruthers ever needed anything and that's when Evans mentioned the hostage situtation. It's not too big a stretch to imagine that a number was passed to Evans.

I always thought it was a shame that we never heard from Caruthers or Evans again.

Why incorporate "Long Way..." into a novel when you can simply involve them in a new storyine? Something Otherness that they cannot figure out and need jack's special talents for? Nah...too obvious. I'm sure that Paul can come up with something suitably tangential and devious.

That way, downloads from Amazon would pick up, yet again (I hope Paul gets a small piece of that action, every time it occurs).

We have faith in you Paul...otehrwise, why would we be here?

Blasphemy! Simply moving the locale from The Museum of Natural History in NYC to Chicago was bad enough. I can't bear to watch that travesty. Kind of reminds me of "The Keep".

Why vote for a lesser evil? I can think of none better than the great old one, who should return from his slumber to take over the U.S. government and make this country a whole hell of a lot better as the leader of our executive branch. Or destroy it and drive everyone insane, kill us all, or something really nasty! Remember, Cthulhu for President, why vote for the lesser of two evils? Wink

Schwinn, if you decide to read P and C, I would start with Cabinets of Curosities,(or any works prior to that) it showcases their talents as writers much better than any of the latter works does, to me.

I love COC. It's my favorite P & C book. I read it while wandering the lower east side areas depicted in the book last time I was in NYC. However, I would recommend that anyone interested in P & C start at the beginning with Relic and then read Reliquary and Thunderhead before starting COC. By the time you get there you have a pretty good feel for Pendergast, Nora and Smithback.

Personally, I would love for Jack to team up with Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files series. They both fight evil in big cities (Dresden is in Chicago), they both are fiercely independent, they both are completely loyal to the people they care about...I could go on and on. Obviously it will never happen, but I can always dream, right?

Relic the movie was a travesty ( much like what they did to midnight mass and the Keep)

Example of how bad that film was. they renamed Gregory Kawakita Harry Wang or Charlie Chang or something else so damned racially stereotypical its not even funny ( and coming form me thats saying something). And they combined Pendergast and D'Agosta into one person!
