Scott Miller Wrote:I just watched the final episode of Season 1; definitely looking forward to the second season. It's an excellent series but I'd say not for everyone. Walt is sympathetic, but I'm not sure people will be able to follow him down the crystal meth hole he dives into and the cancer scenes are simply heartbreaking-as someone who has lost two members of my family to the disease it was almost more than I could bear. I'm glad I persevered because the acting is universally good and the writing is simply fantastic.

I absolutely love the humor the show manages to wring out of the most unlikely scenarios-the talking pillow scene is one the funniest, poignant moments I've ever seen.

Comedians or comedic actors tend to make the best actors. What Robin Williams did on Homicide years ago still sticks with me.

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

I'm not sure that is completely accurate; comedy is the hardest form of entertainment IMO and there is an awfully thin line between comedy and tragedy so I think its easier for comedians to make the jump to acting than vice versa but I have seen my share of comedians that couldn't act a lick.

I mean out of other forms of entertainment. Athletes, models, singers, comedians, etc. Comedians tend to be the best. I don't know of any athletes who've won an Oscar, but there's a long list of comedians who have. I know Diana Ross and Cher won Oscars (Jennifer Hudson, but it was for Dream Girls).

But yes, there have been some comedians who couldn't act their way out of a noose. Damon Wayans in "The Last Boyscout" comes to mind, but he's improved a lot since then.

Now you got me thinking, athletes who've become great/good actors. Burt Reynolds is the first and most obvious that comes to my mind. Can think of a bunch of others who have made the transition of athlete/actor but not sure about good/great.

Will have to ponder that one for a bit.

Did Burt Reynolds play pro football? I'd say Terry Bradshaw is better than average.

Also Tony Danza, but I'm not sure he ever fought pro. Whatchamacallit, Vinnie Jones is okay too. Neither guy is ever going to win an Oscar, though.

College, Florida State halfback, would have went pro if not for an injury.

I like Bradshaw but I would not call him a good actor, he basically plays himself in whatever he does.

Tony Danza is okay as well but the same as Bradshaw, mostly just plays variations of himself.

Vinnie Jones is a good one. Seems like I am forgetting an obvious one. Still pondering this one. More to come, maybe.

The Rock, Arnold, Jim Brown come to mind but I wouldn't consdier them great actors by any stretch. Arnie would have to be considered the most successful.

Then I do agree.
