Has anyone noticed how great the musical score to Lost is? I picked up on it last season while the losties were marching to the radio tower. Really dramatic stuff. That one tune during the march reminded me of John Williams. Seems awfully good for a tv show. I wonder if it's not original and they borrowed it from somewhere else?

I love the score to LOST. Love it. Michael Giacchino is the musical director for LOST. Check out his video podcast on the abc.com "missing pieces" site. The music of LOST is simply intoxicating, especially for a TV series.

Re the Lost music score - I agree completely. It's superb. It seems all the elements came together perfectly for this show. With a poor soundtrack, it would definitely be lacking.

"I handed in the new RJ novel with the
working title, BY THE SWORD. David says the sales force loved the title at the
pre Turkey-Day sales meeting, so that's what it will be. That means Paul Ramplin
gets a credit line in the acknowledgments.

At first, I was annoyed with the pop-ups, but they turned out to be extremely helpful in recapping and revealing insider secrets like the doctor that is the son of the older couple on the island.

Starting on the 14th when ABC broadcasts previously aired episodes they will all be pop-ups. It's a really good idea to maximize their ratings. Evily good.

Also tonight's episode will run 3 minutes longer than normal. If you're recording, it will not finish until 10:03.

It's a harbinger of fabu.

Rose and Bernard are probably the older couple to whom you are referring, but I doubt that it's their son to which the pop up referred.

Here's my thinking, which could always be wrong when we're dealing with LOST.

1) Rose met Bernard later in life, when she had a terminal illness. I'm pretty sure they married just a couple of years ago. I don't believe they had children in those couple of years, and if they had, the child wouldn't be a doctor yet.

2) The doctor to whom the pop up referred simply had "the same last name as the dentist," Bernard.

3) I can't assume it's their son. I inferred from that the doctor would be Bernard's brother or other relation, since Bernard told Rose when they met that he'd never been married. I know you can have children out of wedlock, but somehow, I doubt that would have happened with Bernard. Wink

Am I the only one who remembers "fabu" from The Animaniacs? I sure miss that show.

Thanks for the heads up on the extra three minutes. I guess I'll have to spend three minutes less on the RJ board. Smile

People that tape the show are gonna be pissed tommorow. Really pissed. Hard to imagine that they couldn't edit out 3 minutes.

Hey, if you're reading a thread on LOST, you gotta expect people to give details, so read at your own risk.

OK, so we know the suspicious Mr. Armageddon or whatever his name was that visited Hurley in the nut house is the guy in charge of getting together the group to go to the Island with Naomi as leader. Given the reference to a Dharma polar bear found in a desert by the nasty redheaded archeologist, we have to think Dharma is behind this group, or funding this group. I mean, why wouldn't Dharma want to find Ben? Ben gassed and killed 40+ Dharma people back in the days of the Purge. I imagine they've been trying to find that bloody island for years, which is exactly what Ben has been saying all along. He doesn't want them to find the Island, not so much for the sake of the Island (though that may play some part in his twisted mind) but more for the sake of saving his own skin.

Here is a contradiction in that theory. Why is Dharma so intent on finding the Island if they drop food to the Island on a regular basis? Is it because they can do a fly by drop (maybe with robots) but if they get too close their radar and instruments go wonky? Could it be because Ben has been jamming that signal for 16+ years, but now he isn't so the Island can be found? But there still is some huge force on the island, electromagnetic or otherwise, that seems to confound instruments. Perhaps that's why Jacob is technology-averse.

Now we have Locke taking orders from Walt vs Ben taking orders from Jacob. Do you suppose Jacob was once a young, gifted boy like Walt who somehow wound up on the island long, long ago? And I wonder if Walt wasn't so much allowed to leave the Island as maybe kicked off the Island because perhaps, just perhaps, he is as powerful as Jacob, in whatever spooky way they are powerful, and Jacob didn't want a rival?

I've always enjoyed Jeff Fahey and those remarkable blue eyes that give him a sort of unbalanced quality. He never seems quite right in the head. Here he is on the Island as a scruffy drunk pilot with an oddly sharp memory.

So, kiddies, what have we learned tonight? I still think Dharma is behind everything, and Penny's father is behind Dharma. But what do I know?

That was a fun episode. I hope they don't kill off Miles too quick. He's funny. For a minute there I thought Smokey was going to be explained. I'm not even going to try guessing where the show is going. It wouldn't be right anyway. I'd rate that episode somewhere in the top ten. The pacing really seems to zip along now. 6 episodes left. I hope they can crank out the rest of the season. I'm smelling a Ben flashback coming up. I'd bet money on it.
