I rarely see Japanese movies, but for some reason I found this in rental store, it was "Matango".

"Huh? Matango?!"

I took up it from shelf, and I saw details on package. Then I realized it was original story by William Hope Hodgson! Gosh! I didn't know Japanese film maker did make movie by W.H.H's story. I rented it and saw it.

If you spotted it in a rental store, check it! As you see the title, it seems comedy(Killer Tomatoes). But.....No! It was weird and some scenes were scary.

See the details.

Kenji, you always pick out good books, movies. I put Matango in my queue at Netflicks.

It's a good flick, as I remember. I first heard of it in Famous Monsters of Filmland when I was a kid and kept an eye out for it. Finally caught it on late-night TV in the late 60s. I wasn't disappointed.

Classic Horror Flick. Saw it frequently on Sinister Seymour's Fright Night Theater on TV Saturday nights in the 70s. Seymour always showed B-Movie Horror classics. My brothers, cousins and I stayed up Saturday for the Midnight program, and for some reason I can't explain, the room always filled with smoke, which made us thirsty, so we had to wash away the smoke with brewskis and vino. Wink

P.S., Sadly, VCRs were not invented yet, but cassette tapings of the Seymour show (with Seymour's hilarious comments on the movies he was showing) are rare and expensive finds on the internet and at local swap meets. One Seymour trademark: Whenever a buxom actress showed cleavage during the movie, Seymour would stop the movie and address the audience, "Did you see that? Neither did I. Projectionist, play that again." At which time the cleavage scene would be replayed. LOL. What a happy youth had I.

I can almost see your eyes misting at the recollection, and hear your pleasant sigh.

LOL Yes, Matango was B-Movie. You saw it when you were young? I guess your youth was like Cory Mackenson in Boy's Life. Big Grin
