I'm very sad to see Eko go, but he may not be gone forever. This is The Island, after all.
I like that this show is risky enough to kill off popular characters. Why not shake things up? Why not do the unexpected?
The entire backstory of Eko was all important in his demise. He is the character on LOST who is most sorry for his past. He is the character who has truly redeemed himself, from within, and his actions prove it. He is also the only character actually killed by The Island. Everyone else who was killed was done in my human hands, either the Others, Ana Lucia, Michael or gravity (in the case of Boone). Eko was given the honor of being the first fatal victim of the spooky and oddly noisy black smoke.
I love LOST. I'm hooked. I love that it doesn't follow any rules and there's no way to figure out what's going to happen next. This show takes me to places I've never been. Huzzah for that!
The final memory of Eko so happy with his little brother touched me. Rest in peace, Mr. Eko.

Years ago my mother used to say to me... "In this world, Elwood, you can be oh so smart or oh so pleasant."
Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant.
