Now we're getting to the other side of the island again. About time! I prefer the freaky weird stuff that happens to them. Like the polar bear. The Others are too "normal". The vision quest was pretty cool too!

I agre, plus the Others are so darn nasty they are really unpleasant to watch.

So, is Desmond now able to see the future because of the immense magnetic fields he encountered when he imploded along with the hatch?

Do you think Desmond is really "there" or a product of Hurley's imagination? No one else seemed to notice him.

Good question . . . I hadn't even thought of that. I was thinking along the "future glimpses" lines until you pointed this out.

I agree with Medusa and Maggers that last night's episode was better than the previous ones so far this season. I also like the weird island things better than "the others."

My one complaint . . . can't they make the polar bear look more real? At one point in season 1 (I think), I thought Walt had conjured a bear from reading that comic book. So when it looked hokey then it made sense. But it seems like lately they've been suggesting the bears are real. If it's a real bear, then put some effort into making it look real. If it's not real, then I withdraw the complaint. Big Grin

Ooooh, now there's a thought. Desmond did separate himself from the group, standing alone in Hurley's smelly shirt (which looked like a tied-dyed nightie on Desmond), throwing stones at the ocean. You're right that no one paid him any mind, while they flocked to Locke, Mr. Eko, Hurley and Charlie. Hmmm....food for thought.

If Desmond is a figment of Hurley's imagination, then is Hurley accessing his psychic ability and clothing it, quite literally in this case, in the form of Desmond?

A person being a figment of Hurley's imagination? Is it coincidental that this possibility has presented itself in the past?

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... Locke seemed to notice a naked Desmond running by when Locke woke up. He just couldn't speak at the time to catch the attention of his "brutha".

All in all, it was the best episode this season. I loved how Locke's drug use in the sweat lodge pissed Charlie off and how it tied to the back story of the pot farmers.

Though, if the hatch imploded, how did Locke, Eko, Charlie and naked boy all get out of it? Wouldn't they have been sucked into the newly formed crater?

As long as they don't kill off Hurley, I'll keep watching.

Excellent point.

I think Desmond is real but seriously altered in some fashion by his close encounter with the innards of the hatch.

Desmond as a figment of Hurley's imagination or a projection of an ability that Hurley had....now intensified by the blast. The island did shake and the sky turned purple. Hurley was much closer to the hatch, he might have gotten more of those rays. It will be interesting to see if other survivors come down with these abilities. It seems that Locke and Echo now have more *powers*. Also, both Locke and Echo came out of the implosion with their clothes, why was only Desmond naked? Desmond had a fail safe key....he was closest to the blast center, is this a clue?

And I agree, this was the best episode this season.

I was a bit jarred with the opening of last night's episode, it seemed a bit rushed and, well, suddenly I was in it and wasn't sure what was happening. But that feeling quickly passed and it was an excellent episode. I was glad to get back to the beach and away from the Others. Is Desmond a figment? I don't think so but it is hard to know for sure. Locke seems to be coming into himself, more of a leader than the guy who always went his own way. I think Hurley will become something more, though I don't know what or why. Just a feeling. More questions... Eko? The polar bears? What about the black smoke? Haven't seen it in awhile. Now that they hatch has imploded do they still need to push the button? What about those people in the Arctic (or Antarctic) at the end of the 2nd season who were monitoring the magnetic whatever? And who were they reporting to? What position do the Others have off the island? There are more. I will tune in next week to see what happens next.
