Bluesman Mike Lindner Wrote:"Greeks! Our archers are so numerous their arrows darken the Sun!" "So much the better, slave. We'll fight in the shade!" I love that attitude, Sig. I cannot tell you how much I love it.
That reminds me of my favorite military quote, which I believe happened in Korea, and may or may not be totally accurate. Whether it is or not, I love the quote. I read the book "Marine" so long ago, I cannot remember the exact quote or the exact context.

When informed that their unit was surrounded, Chesty Puller said, "Good! Now we can fire in any direction!"

Wikipedia has the quote listed somewhat different than how I remember it. When informed they were surrounded, Wikipedia says that Chesty said, "They can't get away THIS time!"

Another place has the same situation, only he said, "That simplifies the problem!"

There are so many versions of that . . .

The one I remember is; "There are Communists to the north of us, Communists to the south of us, Communists to the east of us and Communists to the west of us . . . they can't get away this time!"

My partner and I went to the cinema last night to watch this, and we were both very impressed. As a fun action film it was excellent, violent and stylish and honest. It wont win any awards for it's intelliegnce though, and anyone who goes to watch it for the historial aspects will be bored and frustated.

I was impressed with how much my partner enjoyed it. It seems that she enjoyed this movie for more than just the prime British Beef on display. I thought that the sub-plot with the Queen was an uneccessary addition to the film that just slowed it down and took away from the battle, but I think she was glad to have a female character to identify with.

It's nice to be able to walk away from the cinema, without feeling guilty about oggling the topless females in the film, becasue for a change she was oggling the topless males just as much! Big Grin

And as for impressive appearance of the 300 themselves..... whether it's homoeroticism, adolescent-male power fantasy I dont know. But I liked it Wink

[SIZE="3"]Saw this over the weekend. Never in the history of film have so many six-pack abs been cast in one movie. Visually amazing but would have been much better if the players had kept their mouths shut -- bombast to the right of me, bombast to the left of me, bombast in front of me, volley'd and thunder'd. Oh! Did I post this last year? As previously announced, today, finally I saw 300 in a theatre!

Wow! This is great! Terrific visual and cinematography and sound effect, and.....holy s**t! It's bloody hell! Gosh! I'm glad I wasn't live in that era.

But after all I enjoyed the movie. I felt something in my mind. I think it was ancient wild spirit. "300" woke my ancient spirit in my mind. It boiled my blood. I tried to control my excitement while I was watching the movie.

I'm still excited. 300 vs.1,000,000.....It's insane!
