I think the police chief knows it too, He didnt tell Debra because he didnt want to admit more than she already knew ... But why else was it so easy for harry to adopt Dex? Because he could prove he was his father. And he wouldnt tell anyone because then his wife would know he was cheating ...

I just don't see where you can go with that, even if he is Dexter's biological father. Deb already knows he cheated on their mother. Unless Deb is somehow able to figure out what kind of person Dex really is based on the circumstances of his mother's death.

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

That's kind of how I saw it. I think the writers have left it open. As for now we just don't know and I think the only way for it to come up is if the writers see some way to make it important or to bring something else up. Plus didn't they already do the whole who dexter really was the first season with them cleaning out the dead guys house? Was thinking that was them finding out if it was his real father. Not sure though.

Maybe he was just the dude listed on the birth certificate.

I think it will make a difference to Dexter. He thinks that Deb is his adopted sister and that he has no 'real' family. Remember how excited he was to find out he had a brother? I think it would change his world if he found out that Deb is his half sister and that he has 'real' family. And it will change his memories of Harry - it will explain why Harry adopted him and spent so much time with him.

And I think it will affect Deb too.

You have to remember though, he was excited way back in season one. Since then he has gone through a lot and a lot of that has been growing fond of his family and heck the whole reason he went after trinity this season was because he thought he had shot Deb. I think Dexter is past the I don't have real family thing. I think that's what this whole season was about. If anything after the finale I think he may want less ties and family to get hurt because of him.

I suppose this whole thread is a SPOILER ALERT thread, but I'm giving notice anyway...

I am late to the party on this. I only just saw the finale of this season of DEXTER. I LOVE this show. It continues to surprise me and far surpasses the books, which, in and of itself, is extraordinary. Oh, good lord, what an ending, and I didn't see it coming. Well, there were some misgivings when Dexter walked into the dark house, something about that scene sent a little shiver up my spine which I opted to ignore. But no way did I see how the final scene played out. No way. It took my breath away. Poor sweet Rita.

I can't wait until next season, and now we could go on for generations with this show. Wowweee....

Oh, and doesn't Dexter already know that Harry is his father? I'm not sure where I got that knowledge, maybe from an earlier season or possibly from the books?

Debra is an ace detective. At some point in the future she will figure out exactly who Dexter is and what he is. That will be a killer season.

I love the scenes with Debra this season. I didn't care for the actress in the beginning, but she's grown on me and I think her scenes with Lundy and his death, and her scene with Dexter in the last episode when she tells him about his mom were fantastic and very moving.

I'm still reeling from that finale.

It was getting at me for over a week, and still sort of is I guess or I wouldn't be thinking about it so much. It just really sucks that it is such a long wait for a short season with Showtime. But hey there is US of Tara to look forward to in march. Smile

With the type of ending for this season, does anyone else doubt Harrison will be the next generation Dexter?

There is no wise man without fault

Yes, that was what I was referring to in my earlier post.

The books of DEXTER also had the same theme, but in a different fashion. In the books it is Rita's young son who shows Dexter-ish tendencies and for whom Dexter keeps an eye out. So perhaps the TV series is getting around to what was promulgated in the books. The TV series has done that over the years. The writers take elements of the books of DEXTER and add a pinch of this and a touch of that, but then they go off on their own marvelous story lines that are richer and deeper than the books.
