Dexter - Marc - 10-02-2006

Did anyone watch the series premiere last night on Showtime? What a brilliant show! For those that don't know the premise:

By day, Dexter works for the Miami police working in forensics and helps solve murders. By night, Dexter is a murder... but he only kills those that deserve it: other murders. The series has some wonderful dark humor too.

If you get Showtime do check out the series.

I saw it. I liked it, but I see potential for it to go by the wayside in the same way The Profiler on NBC did if they keep around the Iceberg killer for too long (remember Jack?). Hopefully they keep the writing tight so this doesn't happen. I like the flashbacks that show how he came to the point where he is. I like his relationship with his girlfriend too.

Dexter - Marc - 10-02-2006

I never watched Profiler, but that was a 22-ep. series. Since Dexter is on Showtime I believe it's only 12 so even if they keep his killer around until the end of the season I don't think it would get boring considering all the other stuff that could be happening throughout the season.

It's better than a lot of shows that premiered this year.

Hopefully Iceberg wraps up by season's end. Profiler kept Jack around for like 3 seasons.

Dexter - Scott Miller - 10-02-2006

I didn't get to see the show, but I have read Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay on which the show is based. It is well worth the read. Serial killers are generally my cup of tea, but this one worked. Not for the faint of heart, though. I think there is at least one more novel in the series, but I haven't read it.

Dexter - Noelie - 10-02-2006

I'm a huge Dexter fan and I have to say I was impressed. Michael C. Hall completely nailed the character, imo. I also loved Erik King as Doakes. He had me absolutely rolling. Big Grin

Dexter - Evyled - 10-05-2006

I was very impressed with it. I can't wait to check out the second episode this weekend.

I too thought it was a great premiere. My wife bought me both of Lindsay's Dexter books for my birthday. I'm looking forward to watching and reading.

I don't know where my brain was when this series was playing, but I missed it! I'm hoping it will come out on DVD.

For those of you who like horror, true crime and/or dark fiction with a comic twist, then you have to read the Dexter books. Absolutely fabulous! I read Darkly Dreaming Dexter and couldn't put it down and couldn't stop laughing. Lindsay has a unique writing style that is a joy to read.

I'm starting Dearly Devoted Dexter tomorrow!

Since the Dexter books are based in Miami, my hometown, I can tell you Lindsay totally NAILED the feel of the place and the people. Amazing. I can't wait until the third book comes out in August.

I've read the first two books (which DO differ from the series, by the way) and am waiting for the third one (which should come out soon). I really (really!) like this series, though I didn't think there was a chance in hell that I would. I mean, who wants to see a series about a serial killer? It sounds like a downer.

But it's not.

So after three weeks of the series had gone by, I got curious and watched it on Showtime In Demand (sort of like having the shows on your premium channels available whenever you want to watch them, AS IF you had recorded them on your DVR).-

I loved it.

I want more Dexter.
