I was first introduced to The Keep by a buddy in university who lent me his paperback. This was the mid-'80s. I then kinda forgot about it for many years. Sometime in the late '90s, I remembered it and went out and purchased my own paperback. From there the snowball started rolling downhill...

I love it! I've never seen (or heard) that particular expression before, but it's great! Big Grin

I did. I picked it up from a friend a few years ago. It's such a useful expression... How was the movie? Meh. Did you have a good day at work? Meh. What do you think of this color? Meh. Wink

How many vikings does it take to change a light bulb?

None. The light from the burning monastery is more than sufficient.

It is. Especially on the web, where one can't SHRUG and make that face, you know the one I mean. Wink

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

We've done this before, but everyone loves reliving the thrill of the hunt.

At the time that I posted on that thread, I hadn't read all of FPW's works. Now I have and most of them more than once.

P.S. I've heard "meh" from my Jewish friends for years.

Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant.

I'm another one who got led to The Keep by the movie. I can dislike it all I want, but I have to give it credit for that. My friend Stan had seen the movie and really liked it (to be fair, we were only in our early teens, so it's not like we were required to have taste all the time or anything), and he also had the book. I don't remember for sure, but he must've said something about the book being better, making more sense of what was on the screen, etc., so I picked it up. That was in the mid '80s sometime; I must've been 13 or 14. I know it was after the movie came out on home video because I didn't see it in the theater.

I can't remember when or what the next FPW book I read was, but I do remember seeing The Tomb and The Touch just about everywhere at local book stores around that time, so it was probably one of those. And I remember my excitement when I first saw Reborn in a book store and found out that it was actually a sequel, of all things, to The Keep. I had no idea it was coming out, so it was a literary bonanza, if I may use that kind of language in mixed company. And it kept going from there....

I was working at Hollywood Video while in college and a co-worker lent me LEGACIES...said it was awesome and I had to read it...so I did. After that I was hooked. Bought CONSPIRACIES soon after that, but waited to read it till I could find THE TOMB, which I think was out of print at that time (I seem to remember having a hard time finding it, this was back in like 2000/2001 time frame, but found it eventually)

Just yesterday I was on a DK forum and somehow got reminded about FPW and RJ (yes, it was only yesterday and I don't remember how I thought about it...the desert and mortars will do that to you), so while I was searching Amazon for other RJ books I did a Google search on RJ and found this site...now I'm hooked again. I ordered ALL THE RAGE, HOSTS, AND HAUNTED AIR...I hope they arrive soon.
