For those who've seen it: the frozen-pond scene in Central Park.

For those who haven't seen it: wait till you see the frozen-pond scene in Central Park.

Not that the scene wasn't magical, it was, but the fact that she wasn't even cold and that they were able to find a moment of solitude despite all the bustle we were constantly being shown were a couple of the few minor nitpicks I had with the film. Another one that stands out was the stampede scene-I couldn't see any of them surviving that. Again these are minor complaints to an otherwise rollicking flick.

And there are enough monsters for several movies. Only the proper making of NIGHTWORLD can surpass this movie.

P.S. And I mean "proper."

I saw King Kong today, and I must say I was bored, and often.

It was just way too much. The action was too overboard and too fake. The f/x really looked like f/x. It gave everything such a phony feel. The movie felt, to me, like an 80 minute film, stretched to 3 hours. Why? So much of it was fat. I wish I had my own editing room because I think, with a 10 minute trim here and there, it could have been better.

The actions of the characters often didn't make sense either. They were all way over the top. The only characters that I really could appreciate as authentic were the sqinty eyed mate and Adrien Brody's character.

This film was oversold, overtold, and overdone. I will give it 7 out of ten because it did have some great moments.

I don't know if I'll ever watch it again. It felt like a lot of spectacle, but it didn't really come together. It reminded me a little of Tomb Raider and Jurrassic Park III, combined.

I loved it, but I don't know if I'd see it again either -- at least not without a FF button. I'd have cut the first hour by 30-40 minutes. (Get to the freakin island already!) All that backstory about Denham's career and all the time wasted with the foundering of the ship against the rocks add nothing to the story: Movie producer looking for size-4 actress meets starving Ann Darrow and convinces her to come aboard. The ship runs aground off Skull Island.

NOW we begin the real story.

I didn't like Jackson's take on Denham -- he was a stand-up guy, a leader in the original, not the conniving con man of the new one. His revised character can't deliver the final line with any conviction.

I still recommend it for the wonder and sheer spectacle that won't translate to the small screen.

Slight spoiler. Very slight.

I loved it when Kong went one-on-one with the remaining T-Rex (after the overblown three-on-one fracas). I couldn't help but to laugh when he played with the dead mouth (opening and closing it) just like he did in the 33 version. That little one-on-one battle looked so good. It's a shame I had to sit through 10 minutes worth of craziness to get to it.

SLIGHT SPOILERS....

I saw "Kong" this afternoon. I laughed, I yelped, I cried. I really liked it. Did I love it? Mmmm...not quite. I thoroughly enjoyed Skull Island and all the creatures. The bug scene was creepy in the extreme, and the dinosaur/Kong fights were terrific. I particularly liked the scene on Kong's mountain when the bats attack, flying around him while he tries to swat them away, a harbinger of things to come atop the Empire State building.

I liked the depth of character Jackson gave Kong. But Ann Darrow's falling for Kong so deeply and so fast was disconcerting. Left to her own devices, she would have stayed on Skull Island, and I found that just a wee bit odd.

The NYC scenes were great, especially 1903's Time Square.

I'd have cut about an hour from the movie. I agree with FPW, get to the island already!

The cineplex near my place on the East Side has 6 screens but only 2 films were showing... 2 screens with "Narnia" and 4 with "Kong." The theater was nearly empty. I guess everyone was busy with their holiday shopping.

I agree with that. I couldn't figure that being a realistic reaction. Not that fast. I really didn't see much that would make her feel safe either. Based on what she'd been through, in a short period of time, she probably wouldn't have made it through the night. Sure, Kong protected her, but he was pretty rough with her, and he almost killed her several times himself.

I also agree with your take on Jackson's New York. It looked so good! It is hard to believe that it wasn't real. It felt so authentic.

I was disapointed that Kong didn't attack the train,l(ike he did in the 33 version). It would have looked great!

Today, I saw Peter Jackson's King Kong. First, I say one word....

GREATEST!!!!

When I was 7 year-old, I saw King Kong in theater, starring Jessica Lang. That's first movie I saw. About 30 years later, I didn't expect I can see new version of King Kong. But Peter Jackson did it! He did it like he made "The Lord of the Rings"! I like all scenes. The scene of attack by bugs, dinosaur vs Kong's scene, and especially as fpw said, frozen-pond scene was beautiful & fantastic. I knew some scenes were CG, but.....well, this new Kong is wonderful. I could see even flying flies around Kong's body. He looks alive.

So far, this year's best movie was "Million Dollar Baby", but now "King Kong" is absolutely best movie in this year to me! Cool

If I have a time, I want to see it again. These days, I'm seeing movies in new theater, "United Cinema Toshimaen". As usual, the theater was nearly empty. Unbelievable...... Rolleyes

I am such a movie buff, and havn't seen this movie. I must say I have lost my edge. From talking to my buddy, he told me that his youngest boy was more scared in the original hehe. He says the new one was a less scary for him. Funny though, he had great reviews for the movie, but said he was falling asleep when Kong was on Empire State Building. Poor guy works so much, I'm surprised he has time for movies.

The movie didn't hold up as well on second viewing. I wished I had a fast forward button just to get to the monsters. I would still buy the extended version director's cut dvd, but only if the missing gollum attacking the spiders scene is found.

Also, I watched DEAD ALIVE last night (early Peter Jackson) and guess what. The movie begins on SKULL ISLAND and a monkey is taken from the island! Guess Kong was on his mind way back when.
