Pretty much the same reason I opted to not join. That, and there wasn't much of an enemy then to fight anyways.

Is there any doubt Oswald was a former Marine, or that =every= Marine is a rifleman first, down from the Commandant to the newest graduate of Camp Lejune? What you're saying is that only 2 of 3 marksmen charged with killing the President of the United States in broad daylight earned their pay? Please. ('Though it's true you can't hire good help anymore. .)

Oswald's supposed feat has been attempted, but never duplicated. The Warren Commission even concocted a "magic bullet" and voodoo acoustics to support their theory. The Zapruder tape (clearly showing impacts from the front and back both) and the FACT that 4, not 3, shots were fired confirms that at least 2 gunmen were involved. You MUST be shittin' me, right? I knew the Warren Commission report was BS from the time I first saw it (I was what, 10?). Having investigated, prosecuted and defended murder cases since, I can't imagine any experienced homicide investigator buying the government's cover-up. Next you'll tell me Vince Foster committed suicide and Ron Brown died in the plane crash. Oh, and Marilyn wasn't murdered. Rolleyes Yeah, right.

Biggles Wrote:To a great extent, those parameters are mutually exclusive. GI .45 ACP ball ammo has nominal ballistics of 230 grains at 835fps from a full-sized M1911. If you go with a full-sized frame, the stopping power of a .45 ACP is substantial, but from a short barrel the ballistics are badly degraded. The Glocks have polygonal rifling that enhances MV by maybe 50 fps or so, and you can go with CorBon loads that are a bit "warm". If you insist on using a small carry gun in .45ACP, I recommend three things:

1. Go with Glock
2. Use CorBon ammo
3. Go with the 185 grain hollowpoints for higher velocity and better expansion.

Finally, to really enhance stopping power, buy a drop-in barrel for your Glock .45 and stoke it with .400 Corbon ammo. This round was derived from .45ACP necked down to .400 calibre. I have a .400 CorBon barrel for my Glock 21 .45ACP, and it's SWEET! I suspect that its street stopping power should readily exceed that of the .357 Mag.
Well explained Biggles. Thanks.

My favorite round has always been the .357, although the .40 is a close second. I have just recently started shooting the .45 (no agency I have ever worked for issued .45 so my exposure to it is limited). I am gaining more appreciation for it every day.

For smaller hands or conceal carry would Glock P26 or P18 seem like a reasonable alternative? The .45s appear to be larger weapons. (I plead semi-ignorance as I have shot only a few guns, and with two exceptions these have been rifles.)

My thoughts (which may be biased): The .357 is a hell of a revolver round, but aside from the Desert Eagle and the Coonan, has never been successfully converted to semi-auto. The .357 Sig (which I neither own nor have fired) is probably a decent alternative. The .45ACP was great as a ball alternative to ball ammo in lesser calibres (and is certainly superior to 9mm ball ammo in military apps), but for those of us unconstrained by the Hague Conventions, is second-rate. If expanding bullets are an option, speed, expansion, nominal calibre, sectional density, and bullet construction are all important factors. Size of the platform is also important (size efficiency, as I've heard it described). Thus, my favorite carry calibre depends upon my needs. If I have the option of carrying a Glock 21, the .400 CorBon barrel gives me an ultimate stopper (and the plus 2 mag bases give me 15+1 rounds!). In a Glock 17 or 19, I'll go with the 115 grain CorBon loads. In my KelTec P11 I'll go with the same round.

Duh!!! They made a documentary movie about it

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.
