Well it had to happen. I finally shelled out for this book. I don't mean that to sound like it isn't worth it, it's just that it's pricey enough for a kid's book without taking into account getting it shipped to the UK! So I was over the moon to find it in the UK.
Anyway, I think it's worth it for the artwork alone. The whole book is beautifully presented. Haven't read it yet though - it'll be getting wrapped up for my son for Christmas. He's only two and a half but I might as well start him on The Man early.
Besides, I have to return the favour - last year he bought me The Fifth Harmonic!
Had a quick skim though - and had to laugh when I saw the 'instructions' telling me how to read the book aloud! Never used to get advice like that in the Mr Men books...!
Looking forward to Christmas now - and I'll be practising my 'reading aloud' voices too. Hopefully I'll be able to get the English accent pretty good! Big Grin

I'd like to get The Christmas Thingy for one of my nieces for Christmas (I haven't read it either). I was wondering what age it is best for. One of my nieces is 8, and smart as a whip. The other is 5 and a little behind for her age. Which would enjoy the book more? Both girls enjoy reading and have vivid imaginations.

I asked this same question on the old board and, if memory serves me well (and it usually doesn't) then your older niece is the more ideally suited age-wise.
Obviously I'm way ahead buying it for my two and a half year old son but any excuse to buy an FPW book is a good one, right?

I read it to a 3rd grade class last year with great results; they LOVED it. I just attended my son's parent/teacher conference and I received permission to read it to his class around Christmas time, so I'll be practicing as well. My English accent is wildly inconsistent.

I just got back from a stirring performance (my own) of The Christmas Thingy for my son's class and they were entranced, most of them anyhow. Great fun.

I spoke to Matt Scwartz today about doing for Thingy next fall what we did for Beige this fall: He'll take orders for the book until December 1, then I'll inscribe them to the intended child/recipient and he'll send them out in time for Christmas.

I'm in the 6th grade today and wouldn't you know it, I've got a bunch of kids from this class that remember me for reading The Christmas Thingy to them. Very cool.

Yup, we have signed copies in stock now, but if you want, you can request a personal inscription (so that Thingy can say "hi" to your child) and you'll get it by Christmas (those will probably ship out around December 7th). Flat-signed books can ship out immediately.
