The story has been told 1,000 times. Maybe 10,000 times. Maybe 1,000,000 times. Maybe--

Okay, I'll stop.

Here's that oft-told story: Young idealistic fellow comes to the big city, sees his dreams crushed by the powers that be, falls in with the downtrodden underclass, inspires them to cause changes in the system.

So don't go to Robots for the story. Go for the humor. It's funny. Sometimes very funny. My 6-yr-old grandson laughed throughout the whole 90 minutes -- loudest at the fart jokes, of course -- and I found myself laughing out loud a number of times myself.

A good time was had by all.

Ah, but how about that important question: How about the Episode III trailer?

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

We just saw that Saturday night too! It dragged a little the first half of the movie then it got funny. My son loved it!

So awesome it was sawesome.

Seriously, it looked cool. I must see this film. It's going to be dark. Lucas has come out and said it's not for kids.

Right. Which means every kid in the Universe has =got= to see it. "But Dad!--all the other guys are going!"

I did see a press release (not sure if it was directly from Lucasfilms) that recommended that parents leave the little ones at home for this one.

Lucas announced on "60 Minutes" that parents should leave the really little kids home. He thinks it's going to have a PG 13 rating.

It got a little too cute for me at the end (Robots, not the Star Wars trailer Smile ), but I enjoyed it. My juvenile sense of humor appreciated the fart jokes, too! Smile I also liked the metal detector. And the cross-town transit system, which I thought was terribly clever.

And as for the trailer... Wow. Just... wow. I had already seen it online, but it was neat to see it on the big screen. It was the last of about six trailers, and the audience (including a lot of kids since it was a Saturday) went very quiet as soon as it came on. It looks to me like Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine/Darth Sidious, aka the Emperor) is going to steal the movie. He looks scary as hell. I can't wait.

Am I the only one seriously worried about the quality of the third movie? The previews for Episode I looked amazing yet the film lacked on every level imaginable (except SFX).

When Episode II came out Lucas stated that it was going to be darker than the first one. Most people, including myself, took that to mean the story was going to be dark. The fact of the matter is that the look of the movie was dark... i.e. a lot of night scenes.

This preview, once again, makes the film look good (except for the stupid "You were the chosen one!" line) but I am very nervous about the final product. This could be the movie to redeem the previous two but I'm not holding my breath.

Things I don't want to see: any reference to "the one". Ever since "The Matrix" it seems like every big action movie has to have THE ONE in it somewhere. Granted, "The Matrix" wasn't the first movie to ever reference "the one" but it seems everyone has had the need to rip it off since.

I don't want to see Yoda jumping around with a lightsaber. I hated it in Episode II and I'll hate it in Episode III if it happens. He's old and walks around with a cane for Christsake. He'd throw his back out if he did that much jumping around. He's an all powerful Jedi master. He shouldn't be reduced to physically fighting with a lightsaber.

I know "Star Wars" is fantasy and a lot of people may think I'm reading way too much into it and that I should suspend my disbelief, but even a film like "Star Wars" has to abide by certain rules it has established for itself.

And lastly, do I really need to mention midichlorians?

In the "60 Minutes" interview with Lucas last Sunday, they showed Yoda doing exactly that, jumping, thrashing, slashing, etc., etc. Yoda is no longer a puppet handled by a puppetmaster. He's become totally computer animated. Totally.
