Stuart Gordon, king of the low-budget horror flick, hits paydirt again with Castle Freak. It is a nasty, sick, twisted piece of work that should have all low budget fans rejoicing. It reunites the leads, Jeffrey Combs and Barbra Crampton, from Re-Animator in another gruesome foray into the macabre. And to top it all off, Castle Freak is part of twinbill DVD; the other movie is Deathbed, which I haven't yet watched.

I actually liked Dagon, based on HP Lovecraft's "Dagon" and "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". He also did "Re-Animator" (also based on HPL), which I haven't seen but is considered a cult classic (isn't it?).

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.
~ Howard Phillips Lovecraft

It is, and well deserved status at that. Gory mayhem at its finest.

Maybe Gordon is the guy who should be running the Repairman Jack movie. I have read a lot of Lovecraft's material and have seen all those movies mentioned in this thread. He really captures the spirit of Lovecraft's stories. Especially the movie "Dagon". I am so glad to see that I was not the only one to notice that the movie "Dagon" put those two stories, "Dagon" and "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", together. If you read the two, one after the other in any order, you can see that they go together.
