Problem with that is they get more from the advertiser than they do from me. It will take many, many people to change the policy.

If only a relatively few people feel strongly about it, then maybe it's not a real problem--just an annoyance to those few.

In Connecticut...

Frustrated with lengthy advertisements and previews that delay movies and chew up viewing time, a state lawmaker wants theaters to be honest about when a movie actually starts.

Rep. Andrew Fleischmann is proposing legislation to force movie listings to print the time the previews start, and when the movies start.

"We're being manipulated right now. We're being robbed of our freedom of choice because we're not told when the actual movie will begin," said Fleischmann, D-West Hartford.

Here's a state with lots of unemployment and 185 miles of coastline that offers hundreds of potential entry points for terrorists. Instead of worrying about the life and liberty of Connecticut citizens, or bringing in new industry, this jerk is writing law to regulate the way movie theaters list their schedules.

The Multiplex should have one theater that just plays trailers. Admission would be free, you could get some nachos and watch continuous trailers, And they could have like an hour of Classic trailers every other hour.

Their take on the first week of a new film is only 10% of the tkt price; the concession stand keeps them going. So the trailer theater wouldn't be a total loss.

But isn't the first week when the film makes the most money for them? 10% does not seem like a healthy number for a business.

My wife and I know a theatre manager quite well (she went to HS with him and even worked in a theatre with him during college). The real money for managers is in the concessions. One of his best movies ever was "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", because it became a sleeper hit and he was able to keep it on a screen for literally months. His percentage kept increasing as it went on.

Another example is a local theatre that has played "Rocky Horror Picture Show" every weekend for many, many years (I think it's a midnight show every Friday or Saturday night). If I had a small theatre I would play cult classics: horror and sci-fi like "Night of the Living Dead", "War of the Worlds", "The Day the Earth Stood Still", you get the idea. There's got to be money in that or they wouldn't show them.
