I really hope it works out that way. I've seen 'multi-picture deal' kind of things where the remaining pictures were just options for future movies that don't get made because of non-spectacular box office for the first. Serenity is a good recent example, and one that I think was badly marketed.
I think part of the problem with franchise characters breaking into movies has been a real lack of promoting the origins of the franchise. It's way easier to get people excited about a movie prospect if they have an inkling of why this movie is different from the half-dozen released last weekend. I'm sure we here are infecting everyone we know with our enthusiasm (and with a love of Jack and FPW in general). My biggest worry is that your average movie-goer will look at the preview and think generic action/horror movie without understanding that it ISN'T your standard fare monster flick.
I know you've said Beacon is committed. I really hope they prove to be stand up on that. I just really wish there were some additional media (TV, graphic novels) to introduce Jack to a wider audience prior to the film's release, since really so few people seem to read these days for pleasure.
