I don't post on here these days but I just wanted to stop by and say how much I enjoyed The Proteus Cure. From start to finish it was a thrilling read. Great characters, terrific storyline. Well done on all counts (and to both writers.). I think I'll go back and re-read some of the other medical thrillers now - but first, I'm off to track down some Tracy L Carbone books.

"I handed in the new RJ novel with the
working title, BY THE SWORD. David says the sales force loved the title at the
pre Turkey-Day sales meeting, so that's what it will be. That means Paul Ramplin
gets a credit line in the acknowledgments.

I'll add my likes here as well. I just started the book and it's got me hooked already in the first few pages.

I finished The Proteus Cure and I enjoyed the read immensely. You left room for a sequel, hope that's the case.

I must say I found it a little slow at the beginning. It took me a while to get "into" it, but then it suddenly picked up and I couldn't put it down.
A great read. Glad I got it, and I'm glad FPW is also doing things other than "Jack".

That reminds me ... must write a review on amazon!

Got The Proteus Cure from Santa and dug into yesterday and am digging it. I was discussing it with my wife this morning and stem cells came up and we both realized that while they are recognizable to us by name, neither of us knows much about them beyond that. So a couple of questions regarding stem cells, the first is where are they harvested from and does the age of the 'donor' make a difference(I always seem to hear about them in association with gestating babies or infants) and the second is do you believe that they are the key to unlocking a cure(if indeed such a thing exists or can/will exist)?

They're all over (a bone-marrow transplant is really a stem-cell transplant). I think they have huge potential

Thanks for the info...fascinating stuff. I hope that its a potential that is realized and it seems to be heading in that direction from what I can gather.

Stem cell harvests are the way to go now. It's done after the donor receives a stem cell stimulating drug (like Neupogen) for a set number of days. Then the donor is phoresed.....done like a hemodialysis cleanse.....of the stem cells produced. The cells are then treated and then given to the one in need.

Much better than the donor getting a bone marrow tap for harvesting. Ouch! to n'th degree!!!

Wrapped up The Proteus Cure over the weekend; thanks for another thrill ride. After reading the description of stem cells in action, the choking off of the malignant cells, I couldn't shake the image of a strangler fig out of mind; quite a few parallels between the two IMO.

And I wouldn't hesitate to have anyone I love undergo the procedure, genetic legacy be damned but do understand why that could be a sticking point.
