I may just be a hardcore/diehard fpw/rj/AC fan, but I just was on goodreads and reading reviews of some of the jack books and AC. People are just terrible. I understand that my everyone has the same interests, but these people must not be reading the same books as we are! I mean, come on! I remember nights starting a jack book at 7pm and finding myself still up at 6am finishing the last few pages before work. I just picked up the haunted air this afternoon and somehow found myself reading most of it today. Like I said, I understand there are different interests but how could you not fall on love with this amazing story?!

Like you said, people have diffrent tastes. I was hooked on the series until I reached Infernal. I got so frustrated with Gia's action in the beginning on the novel that I put it down and haven't read another RJ book since and that was in 2009. I was also skeptical of some of the things people were able to do in earlier novels, specifically Jack's dad in Gateways.

But those are my opinions. I still think FPW is a great author and I've enjoyed everything else I've read by him. Some people just don't care for the action/supernatural genre. :noidea:

I've never been to Goodreads so I don't know what they're like over there. Some readers object to the Jack books for odd reasons. They find some characters' "hate speech" offensive. Well, yeah, those characters happen to be racist villains - that's how they think. Others are put off by the series' libertarian Weltanshauung -- too politically incorrect.

I don't lose sleep over readers who just don't get it -- or who've been so brainwashed they can't get it. I don't try to please everybody. I'd be worried if I did.

Everyone I recommended it to liked it (that is if they tried it), but I thought they would (don't recommend to just anyone). I'll try to remember to look at reviews later to understand better what you mean...I just checked Amazon reviews of The Haunted Air and most were very good. Only 2 were 1 star and 1 of those was actually complaining of the kindle quality than the story, and the other had 3/4 of the thumbs down. I'll try to look at more later (and more awake) and maybe I'll add more then.

I've been looking at a lot of reviews and they're nearly all positive, including by fans (and even authors) of other genres who normally avoided mystery or scifi. The very few I saw on Amazon that were condemning of them were judged unhelpful by most, and I thought with good reason as the negative reviews didn't give understandable reasons (and tended to indirectly attack the other reviewers who praised it highly) or it was some tiny thing offended their sensibilities, really petty stuff like thinking Abe was too stereotypically Jewish or felt FPW was browbeating readers with the gay agenda in Hosts, and they couldn't see past that to enjoy the story. I did look at a handful of pages on Good Reads and they seemed mostly positive as well, even if they were light on praise (a couple just didn't seem to like the supernatural elements as they couldn't suspend their disbelief for it, and I had to roll my eyes at one referring to Mauricio in Conspiracies as "a flying monkey"). So all in all I'm gonna guess most of the few people who give bad reviews either have strong personal issues that interfere or are just in a bad mood that day (or should just stick to newspapers).

Yea the bad reviews just upset me because of what an amazing adventure and story jack and family have been on. Oh well. That's their problem. I'm rereading the AC/rj series just to love it even more, especially before dark city
