cobalt Wrote:To Serve Man was one of my favorites and the other was with Burgess Merridith as the librarian accused of being obsolete. I think that was the name of the episode too.

I have an authographed Kanumit photo from Richard Kiel when I met him at a convention in Chicago a number of years ago. I didn't even realize it was him that played the Kanumit until I saw the photo on his table. Very nice guy. My friend that was with me was BSing with him (she told him that he was much nicer than Robert Vaughn who was also at the show LOL) and Kiel put his hands on her head like he was squishing her head and they literally covered her entire head. That man was huge!!

And the one with Merridith you are talking about was The Obsolete Man that also starred Fritz Weaver. Another great episode that is one of the more famous, but not as famous as Time Enough to Last.

Is that the one where he's the last man left and all he ever wanted was time to read...and he breaks his glasses?

Sigokat Wrote:Hmmm, I know I have 6 boxes of discs, maybe the last one is all special features. I didn't really look that closely when I got it. I will have to verify tonight. Thanks for the info!

And as to the ones filmed on video, yeah they are...strange. The quality of Twenty Two was not that great and I attributed that to the quality of the original print they used to transfer to DVD. The only one that I think I kind of like in video is "Long Distance Phone Call", but that one is creepy anyways because of Billy Mumy. The other one with him, where he was the evil child in the town, was also creepy, something about that kid...freaky.

You must have gotten a better boxed set than I did, mine only came with 5, but just about each season had a Special Features disc, maybe they just moved stuff around.

Yeah the ones shot on video, luckily just 6, unfortunately suffer because of it. I did like the robot girl, Lateness of the Hour, one and yeah the Bill Mumy one was creepy, because he's a creepy kid. Have you ever seen any of the New New Twilight Zone(Forest Whitaker one)? They do an episode which continues Its a Good Life, called Its Still a Good Life. One of the few of that series that was actually pretty good, Mumy was in it as was Cloris Leachman.

For me it's a tie between 2. One is The Shelter because it was so insane and yet (assuming the plausible beginning happened as shown) not only plausible but even probable.

The other I'm not sure about because I originally heard it on a radio show a few years ago, and it actually brought tears to my eyes. When I tried finding it online to share with others I was unable to (as it was really old--heck, the radio show I heard it on played it as it had been aired many decades ago including cigarette commercials!) but found it was also a TZ ep called The Lonely. Unfortunately it was toned down and made less shocking & brutal at the end (as well as cutting out several minutes of their bonding) so it wasn't anywhere as good, yet that first impression from the radio show makes it real hard for me not to like it anyway because I automatically add in all those details into the TZ ep and thus makes it my favorite. Yet had I seen it on the TZ first I'm not sure that would be the case. But I'm sure even the TZ ep would leave me with disturbing deep thoughts to haunt me for the next few days...

The Shelter is a great episode and really shows how fast people will turn on each other and resort to their primitive states

Agreed. The Shelter is up there as one of my favorites as well. And isn't Grandpa Joe in that one as well?

I need to get the set on DVD. They have it on Instant Queue, but season 4 is missing. Sad

I think you can get it on Amazon for a bit over a $100. Its cool because it has the Rod Serling clips at the end of each episode where he talks about next weeks episode (some are only audio though). And they have some extra features and stuff as well.
