Hello all,

I'm new to the board and could not find this mentioned elsewhere.

I have been a fan of FPW's work off and on through the years from The Keep and into as many of the RPJ books as my wife and I have been able to get ahold of. Caught up with Reprisal upon reading Dark At the End.

I'm referring to Nook editions of both books and I believe Reprisal is the updated text. This is a glaring continuity problem that I'm hoping FPW or someone here can clear up that is really bothering me.

I will try to limit spoilers.

In Reprisal, Rasalom can "raise" the dead (i.e. Herb Lom) and even worse (i.e. Danny). He can also perform the rather mundane task of driving a sports car.

Now, forward to Dark At the End and Rasalom laments the fact that he has lost the power to animate the dead since his rebirth. He then reveals that he has never learned to drive a car! But mere weeks earlier, he was tooling all around North Carolina in his Maserati.

Is the text on Nook not, in fact, updated or was something missed?

Good question! I'm about to start a chronological reread leading up to Nightworld in May; I read things a little out of order. Hopefully someone can offer some insight.

:welcome: Glad you joined the discussion!

It's possible you just spotted a gaffe. I am sure that as a series' scope grows bigger and bigger it becomes difficult to keep track of smaller details such as driving and um...raising the dead.

For many on the board, it has been a while since we read Reprisal, and our knowledge of the finer points has diminished. That may account for why it hasn't been pointed out.

On the plus side, when people point out these problems, Paul does a good job at taking note and correcting the issues in future re-releases.

Or there is the possibility that everyone else's version is correct and your copy has been altered by The Otherness.

Good catch. But (he says, dancing as fast as he can) the assumption is that Lom was dead when he was talking to Bill. That may be false. The hollowing may have occurred at or around the time of the mutilation. (I know this excellent explanation makes me feel better.)

Hmmm....dubious. So, what about Danny and the sudden lack of driving skills...?

Well the force of the bomb blasts gave Rasalom concussion and temporary amnesia. So he completely forgot how to drive or raise the dead...

When did he ever drive?

In the original post, Chukapi states

"In Reprisal, Rasalom can "raise" the dead (i.e. Herb Lom) and even worse (i.e. Danny). He can also perform the rather mundane task of driving a sports car.

I remember he headed off to North Carolina, but I don't remember him tooling around in his Maserati. I suppose it's possible he could have seduced a stranger to drive for him. It seems to me he always has a driver.
