Hey y'all,

Did I miss a clue, or does anyone have any theories about why the Compendium went all random?

After all, it worked just fine when Jack and Gia were hunting for a cure to the Stain.

In fact, I think it was fine right up until Hank got ahold of it. It just seems wierd that the book took all the beatings and burnings and abuse that mankind could throw at it for 15,000 years, then <ping!> it goes all wacky.

Whaddaya think? Any ideas?

I believe the answer you seek is given toward the end of The Dark at the End.
The R man states that he messed with the book.
Really?
I haven't gotten my copy yet (C'mon Oct!)!
I'm glad that gets explained, tho, since it's been bugging me!
(And thanks for hiding the answer!)

I refuse to look at the spoiler but my guess is it has something to do with the reader. Since everyone sees it in their first language the book has to have some sense of who's reading it.

That's what I figured.
Maybe being that close to the Fhnit...Fniht,,,Fintman. . . . big soggy football shaped thing in the basement messed it up somehow.
Perhaps it's a defense built in to the book to make it less useful to bad guys?

Only 6 days left!!

Other than almost running the car off the road while running errands yesterday because of a street sign I spotted, it's not too bad.
