I wish Lovecraft was still alive and writing. All his works are so great and you want to just read new stuff instead of the same stories over and over, no matter how awesome those stories are.

"He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a Prince." George Graham Vest

"We are alone, absolutely alone on this chance planet: and, amid all the forms of life that surround us, not one, excepting the dog, has made an alliance with us." - Maurice Maeterlinck

People tried to continue his stuff but it just wasn't the same. The Man has a cool short story in Cthulhu 2000 called The Barrens which was a good one.

yeah I never got in to the other works. I do have a HP Lovecraft Encyclopedia and another one on the Cthulhu Mythos which are cool. I'll have to check out The Barrens by The Man then. I didn't know he had written something Cthulhu related.

I have had a hard time getting into Lovecraft even though I want to. But while aimlessly browsing my way to the bathroom at B&N (to mask the fact that was the only reason I stopped in), I spotted the Lovecraft Necronomicon Primer, a guide to the Cthulhu Mythos. This has to be my oddest impulse buy to date, and I hope it gives me some insight into his works so I can enjoy them more.

I keep meaning to reread everything. Some of the stories I'm certain I haven't read for at least a decade. When I do I think I'm going to look up the order they were written and read that order.

I have an amusing survival book. "What to do When You Meet Cthulhu: A Guide to Surviving the Cthulhu Mythos". That was very fun to read.

a little OT but in the same vein as Alvin's survival book, I bought a book for my buddy that was a Zombie Survival Book. As In "You are now a zombie" it was pretty funny and cool

If you don't know Lovecraft and want to try him, I suggest "The Thing on the Doorstep" (listed in Fenian's link) as a good place to start. It was my first Lovecraft story (discovered in an anthology) and made me want more-more-more.

That's funny, that was the first one I read then The Rats in the Walls and then everything else. Lovecraft was a very interesting person.
