I have Fido in the Netflix queue... looking forward to it.

I saw Fido, too. That was strange but fun. The Japanese tilte was "Zombieno". Don't know why...

Another my favorite horror movie is "The Fright Night" (of course it's original).

The Mad American Wrote:Great picks. I too love "Dog Soldiers"(probably in my top 5 list, it is Night of the Living Dead with werewolves and humor) and "The Descent" but I really am growing to dislike Neil Marshall, it is like he pulled a bait and switch on us with those first two movies.

I don't think "Fido" was better than "Shaun of the Dead" though. But I too liked both versions of Dawn, the original for its very clear message that so many people missed and the remake just for the fun of it.

"Wicker Man" was great but Nicolas Cage should be flogged for the remake, what a pile of garbage that was. I have not seen "The Devils" but will search out a copy to view.

I never bothered with the remake of The Wicker Man. The movie is one that I love so much, I knew that any sort of remake would diminish it for me. Especially one involving Nicolas Cage. Bleh. I did hear rumor that Christopher Lee wanted to make a sequel to the original movie. That might be good, if they ever pulled it together, although it's a little unnecessary.

It's funny that you mention the message in the original Dawn. Romero's social commentaries in Night, Dawn, and Day did not bother me. But I HATED the horseshit commentary in Land, Diary, and Survival. Romero for me pulled the ultimate bait and switch, delivering three great zombie movies, all but defining the entire zombie genre, and following up decades later with, in my opinion, nearly unwatchable garbage.

I do not normally approve of remakes. Every now and then, one comes along that I can appreciate. The Hills have Eyes and The Last House on the Left are really the only two remakes that I can think of off the top of my head that I truly enjoyed. There are a many that are watchable (but not necessary), and many more that are just utter shit, but these two I really did enjoy.

I could not agree more. I enjoyed House of a 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects, as homage films, not really anything original, but what he did to the Halloween series, especially the sequel, made me want to vomit. Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 was unforgiveable.

Here's another great Japanese movie that has yet to be mentioned in this thread. It's horror in the same sense that Lord of the Flies was horror - the scenario itself. Check out Battle Royale - GREAT movie, solid social commentary, a very "holy shit" movie. I hope to whatever movie gods are out there that Hollywood never so much as as considers touching this film.

I love the Wicker Man, a masterfully done suspense film, with a perfect ending. Woodward was great in that movie, Ekland wasn't too bad either.

The sequel for it last I read was called Cowboys for Christ about two American evangelists who travel to Scotland and encounter a similar cult/religion. I think it might be stuck in development hell though.

I've heard about The Devils, haven't been able to find a copy of it though, is it as good as Wicker Man?

I have seen nothing that would lead me to agree with you here. He has turned out more garbage in the genre than anyone I can think of. He is on pace to become the next Uwe Boll.

His "originals" House of 1000 corpses and Devils Rejects are torture porn at best and more rightly complete and total waterhea crap.

What he did to the Halloween franchise is inexcusable.

I agree completely on Romero. What he did with such a subtle hand in the first 3 movies he completely lost in the last 3. The social commentary in "Night" "Dawn" and "Day" (not so much in "Day" as in "Night" and "Dawn") was intelligent and subtle enough to not be a smash in the face, not so in the last 3 pieces of trash.

And "Battle Royale" is awesome. Good call. And I am with you in hoping the super-genius's in Hollywood never ever touch that.

Just saw it last night with me friend of 46 years, Mitch Polstein.

The truly disturbing HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL.

Every bit as good, possibly better. Awesome movie. I don't think they ever released it on DVD, I found a burned copy at a horror con a few years ago.

The most chilling and creepy horror movie is "Possession" with Sam Neil and Isabelle Adjani.

Also, I like "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud". That was spooky!
