Aishwarya is perfect as Kolibati. I have seen a few of her films (most recently the one she made with Dylan McDermott) and she has exhibited just the right amount of vulnerablity and paradoxically strength. She would truly be inspired Hollywood casting and the film would excell in India.
I have always pictured Jack being portrayed by Johnny Messner or even McDermott from his Practice days.
I have slightly warmed to Ryan Reynolds.However he is on the cusp of stardom as they say and would he be willing to create a character that he could make his own?
trouble with Hollywood is that original stories often become routine. The thing that makes them original gets watered down so that it neatly fits into prepackaged pabulum that will pre sell in international markets.
recently the tagline for the reboot of Charles Bronson's old film The Mechanic referred to the character's fix it qualities. Would the general movie going audience be confused?
I know Paul cannot divulge the potential director but is it someone who understands the character and genre or someone Beacon will hire on the cheap? Or will they be daring to hire someone like Branagh or Eastwood?

Some good ideas. I just re-read the Tomb (again) and am beginning my periodic re-read of the whole RJ series and i must say when i finished the tomb again my first thought was what an awesome movie it would make.
I would love to know why it isn't getting off the ground. The Green Latern effectively burns a huge pile of money and The Tomb cant get made?????
Maybe it would be better to just get the Tomb done as a good film and not try to think of it as a series. Realistically its too many books now you wont get them all made so just do one really well, but 15 years in and nothing so i wont hold my breath. Shame you cant get the rights off to a company that wants to make it. It doesn't strike me as Touchstone material really so it might be better somewhere else.
On the cast thing Ryan Reynolds gets mentioned and i think he would suck by the way. Much too nice and pretty to be Jack. Plus RJ has a dark side so you need an actor who could carry that, Reynolds totally couldn't. What about Tom Hardy? He can do violent ok just look at him in 'Bronson' and like most decent Brit actors he can do an American accent.

Welcome Baron. I just rewatched Inception and I must say Hardy is one of the more inspired choices I've seen in awhile; I think he could do the role justice.

While I am not jazzed on Reynolds he may come relatively cheap according to Hollywood's standards. Tom Hardy is obviously climbing the Hollywood ladder and while he was terrific in Inception, he wasn't being asked to carry the film. His role in The Dark Knight Rises is far more substantial but still within the confines of the film.
To get Jack out of development hell, will require an actor that exhibits all the qualities Paul has given him. Remember the film will MOSTLY follow the book. Certain things will be tweaked as it were.
I wish the studio would have just concentrated on filming The Tomb as one off and THEN deciding if it were worthy for the story to continue (this would easily be answered if the film turns a profit.)
The fellow from Capt America Chris Evans seems to bulky to be Jack.
The ideal candidates for Jack are all too old now- Crowe (in his Gladiator/RomperStomper days), Mortensen, Norton, Damon (in a pinch) among others. Robert Downey is embedded as Iron Man but is also in his 40's now.

You'd think that Killing people would make them like you, but it doesn't! it just makes people dead.
I keep thinking about this and wondering if they could. Because Jack is supposed to be a plain, unassuming looking guy who can then just suddenly mug criminals to fund a little-league team and also fight beings of horrifying power.

The trouble is we've all talked this cast thing for so long but to me the film looks as far off as ever.
When it started I wanted Kevin Bacon for Jack, and when it started he would have been ideal!
