I've never read any of the Dexter books, perhaps I should. It might give me another slant of the series.

I read the first and thought the series was better. When I heard the idea of I think the third book and heard it was about what Dexter's dark passenger actually was I laughed and decided I wouldn't read the series. Please if anyone thinks the summary of it makes it sound worse then what it is please correct me and I may read it again......maybe. LOL

I've read all three DEXTER books, and even though I was disappointed by the third, I will read the next DEXTER book, should he write one.

This is one of the rare times that I've enjoyed the cinematic version of a book more than the book. Books are better for me, for the most part. The writers of TV DEXTER are so clever and have taken DEXTER to places that the books have not. The TV series is, without a doubt, superior to the books.

The first of the three books is terrific. It's where DEXTER started. The idea of a serial killer who kills only serial killers was born here. Dexter's relationship with Harry is so important in this book, as is Dexter's genesis. Great reading, I recommend it. However, it will be somewhat different from the first season of the TV series.

The second of the DEXTER books was one of the most disturbing books I've ever read. Now, I know most of you love to be thrilled and horrified and probably have read more grisly books than the second of the DEXTER books, but I haven't. There are images from that book that have stayed with me over the years since I first read it. GAK! I wish I could erase them from my mind. The TV writers took ideas from this book and used them in the Ice Truck killer story arc, but there are specifics they didn't use, and thank god for that.

The third of the DEXTER books went in a direction that I didn't care for and so I found it disappointing.

If you haven't read the books, and since most of us on this site are readers, I would recommend reading them, if only to see the difference between the TV series and the books.

As I said earlier, there are elements of the books sprinkled throughout the series. It's interesting to see how the TV writers have taken those bits and pieces and woven them into their whole new fabric of TV DEXTER. But without a doubt, the TV series has given us a richer, deeper, more layered DEXTER, and I really like it.

Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant.

The Dexter novels (and evernts) are very different from the series. I read the first two novels and see no reason to continue reading them. However, I will not miss the series.

I was reading the summary of the latest Dexter book and it sounded like in a few ways the writer was almost trying to blend the book a little with the tv show. I thought this was funny as it seemed different as usually the show would try to more blend with the book, which they have done but I guess it was just funny seeing it going the other way. I think that shows how well the writers have done with the tv series.

I'm pretty late to the Dexter bandwagon....but I LOVE THIS SHOW. Don't want to finish watching what's already out because I'll be sad there won't be any more. At least until later this year, I suppose. What ridiculously interesting plots and character development...amazing. And the witty dialogue and playful language never fails to crack me up. I couldn't help but be reminded a lot of Jack while watching Dexter go about his darkly secretive yet brutally honest yet violent yet loyal double-life. (Ahhh when will we see Jack on-screen...?!)

We were just wondering when Dex was coming back; we've signed up for Showtime just to watch it live(well more or less live)the past two seasons. Even though I'm looking forward to it, I'm still not happy with last season's finale.

I was certainly happy with the finale.

Spoiler Alert (sort of)...!!!!

The person that is now missing from the series has bugged me for a while.
