I figured you would be. I do wish they would have at least tried to end it in a way that might have been satisfying to people who mainly liked the show for the sci-fi, mystery & suspense aspects.

I've been wondering what season 6 would be like fast-forwarding over the Sideways stuff altogether, including in the finale. I wonder if that would make it feel like a better season overall for someone who disliked the Sideways world all along and especially disliked what it was revealed to be. I might try that just as an experiment, even though I didn't hate the Sideways after finding out what it was.

PS - The Hitler video is hilarious. Big Grin

I actually thought similar to that. I think if they would have left out the flash sideways completely it would have been better. I actually thought a better last season would be to go back to the flashbacks of the first two seasons for characters we had not gotten. Sort of like what they did with Jacob's and Richard's backstory. I would think that would have been a better way to solve a lot of questions on the island.

I agree, it might have been a better season that way. They could have used flashbacks to answer (or at least provide more clues) to some of the things they left hanging. They could have used flashbacks to tell us more about Eloise and Widmore, for example.

Even though I'm ultimately OK with the Sideways being some in-between place for the characters to meet up before moving on to another life, I'm pretty sure I didn't need the Sideways all season long.

I'm still a little annoyed that the Sideways was so misleading. If I guess the answer to a mystery and I'm wrong, that's fine - so long as there was enough information all along for me to have guessed correctly if I'd looked at it all differently. There was no guessing what the Sideways actually was. We were led to believe it had something to do with the time travel and the nuke from the previous seasons or something MIB created. And there was nothing to suggest it was anything else. That's kind of a cheat, imho.

And yet, it's almost a week later and I still find myself thinking about that final episode and finding ways it reconciles with the series as a whole. So I guess the writers did something right.

I'm still a lot more happy than unhappy with the finale. The emotional investment I had in LOST (especially since the season 1 episode "Do No Harm" in which Boone dies and Aaron is born) was satisfied with "The End". I saw this post on another forum that pretty much says it all for me:

[INDENT]I wanted a happy ending for our characters - CHECK
I wanted a happy ending for the Island - CHECK
I wanted high tension - CHECK
I wanted high emotion - CHECK
I wanted big special effects - CHECK
I wanted to hear "dude" "son of a bitch" & "brotha" - CHECK
I wanted the final shot to be the eye closing - CHECK
I hoped to see Frank and Richard again - CHECK
I wanted to enjoy the ride - CHECK

I'll always like the show, it had some great moments over the years. Still, I ended up with a " So, what the fuck was the point of the whole thing?" kind of feeling with the final episode.

That summed it up exactly for me.

I didn't watch the beginning, then watched a couple of episodes and got hooked, then quit watching when they started doing "flash forwards." It started seeming like they could do whatever the writers could dream up, as long as it was weird. Then I watched the explanation and the last episode, and was left with the feeling, "I'm glad I quit watching."

Because of the ending it seemed like a half hour Twilight Zone episode stretched out over six seasons. What is that, like 132 hours?

I expected something that took a little work.

I make no bones about how much I love LOST. The Island and the characters have entered my heart to stay. It was a stupendous story. It was a wild ride. I made some great friends.

I recommend pleasant.
