It seems that in the "flash sideways" a great deal more has changed in the lives of the Oceanic survivors than their just landing safely. Locke seems to have a different relationship with his father, for instance.

Helen, Locke's girlfriend, bemoans the business of planning their wedding. She suggests that they get her parents and Locke's father and go to Las Vegas for the wedding instead. Locke has a picture of himself and his father at his desk at the box company. Helen hated Locke's dad and what he did to Locke. She wouldn't have said what she said and Locke wouldn't have his dad's picture around if Locke's relationship with his father was what we knew it to be prior to The Incident.

Again, things that make you go Hmmmm......

I wonder how Locke's paralysis happened in the new world order of the flash sideways.

Soooo....where does that leave Kate and Claire? Did they come to the Island to play their parts as mothers of Aaron? Hmm.....

Hearing from other people studying the crossed off names, they mention that these are some of the names crossed off: Straume, Littleton, Linus. So maybe you don't necessarily have to die to become an unacceptable candidate?

Here's the full list if you want to take a look:

I had a feeling that might be so; I thought we might find some interesting names there. Thanks, Alvin, for the link. I prefer to find these clues myself, so rather than check the link I will go back and scan the wall and see what I can see.

I must admit, I'm a bit of a purist. I want to figure out LOST myself. LOL, not that I can, but I've done pretty well so far with little victories here and there. The big picture evades me, since the writers are dancing to a whole 'nother tune that I cannot hear.

More random thoughts...

I wonder, for instance, if the Island has been set up (by whom I'm not sure, but maybe aliens - the preeminent Other*) to keep Ultimate Evil (aka Smoke Monster) confined and unable to wreak its horror on the rest of planet Earth.

*Aliens: The big ship's wheel-looking thingy hidden deep beneath the Orchid station always put me in mind of aliens or some unearthly power that might have created it. It's a helluva thing to have just hanging around on a tropical island.

Ooh ooh, maybe the Smoke Monster is an alien, kin to the people who left the big ship's wheel time control gadget behind, and they left the Smoke Monster behind on purpose (for punishment or because they couldn't handle it or didn't want it), with the ship's wheel to keep it confined to the Island and the Island safe from the rest of the world. Or more aptly put in this scenario, the rest of the world safe from The Island.

Maybe the ship's wheel is the remains of an ancient alien ship that crashed on the Island eons ago, and somehow left the white and dark sides, the white and the black, the good and the evil, engaged in an eon's-long battle for control of the Island to protect the rest of the earth from the evil of the smoke monster.

Maybe home for the Smoke Monster is another planet, and that ship's wheel will turn out to be a real ship's wheel, able to take him there if he can get at it.

This is bothering me. As I was watching The Substitute again I saw a brief flash of an actress as Locke rolled into the teacher's lounge. I could swear it was Harper Stanhope. I looked up the episode online and saved a screen grab to compare. Is it Harper?

Dang, you're good with technology.

Harper is stunningly beautiful. Unless her face lift totally melted and fell in on itself, I don't think those people are the same.

Yeah, it was something that I just caught a glimpse of and stayed in the back of my mind while watching the next episode. Meanwhile, names on the Lighthouse wheel:

Wallace is crossed off at 108 and Austen isn't crossed off at 51.

Who is Wallace?

I am not finding the new Claire to be very convincing. Could be that she's just not as good an actress as others in the show, which is what I've always thought. However, that "baby" in the crib was CREEPY!!!

Don't know who this Wallace is.

Here's an interesting thought. In the flash sideways Jack has a son who is about 15. Jack met Sarah just a few years before the crash, so David is probably not Sarah's son. Would Jack have been in Medical School when he had his son? If so, who's another doctor on the show? Juliet.
