My very first thought for the actor was Mark Wahlberg, hands down the only actor out there with the right look and can give us girls the money shot we want. Jack is such a complex character that no matter who the actor is it will all come down to the story.
Welcome, Miller 3323. You'll like it here.

Mark W. is a decent choice, but a tad old at 39 to play a 34-37 year old for the next decade or so when the sequels will be made. In 2022, when Nightworld is filmed, he'll be over 50 playing a 37 year old.

No matter how good his abs are today, I cannot suspend disbelief on that one.

Axioms Jack seems to live by (inadvertantly or not):

Why he does what he does: "I chose this life. I know what I'm doing. And on any given day, I could stop doing it. Today, however, isn't that day. And tomorrow won't be either." Bruce Wayne, Identity Crisis

On Rasalom: "Water's wet, the sky is blue...and good old Satan Claus, Jimmy...he's out there...and he's just gettin' stronger." Joe Hallenbeck, The Last Boyscout

I was thinking maybe Sam Worthington.

But will any film live up to our "hope"?

Same problem as Mark W. except worse. He's already 42. In 2022 he'll be 54 playing 37.

Sorry, no sale.

My issue with most of the actors that first come to mind (aside from age) is simply that any "action hero" actor or even those who seem to do well as "part-time" action heroes is going to be...well, too strong, for the role.

Jack's greatest asset aside from being chosen is that he does not, at first glance, give his adversary of the moment, physical pause. Many of his enemies learn too late and to their great and in some cases final dismay, that they horribly underestimated him. Jack is more like an Edward Norton (also too old) than a Mark Wahlberg to me. MW always looks like he is spoiling for a fight, just waiting to a reason. Jack can intimidate too but he does not wear his potential for violence on his face.

Honestly, I think that the successful big screen Jack is as yet, unknown to us.

I'm inclined to agree, (see my comment about Sam Worthington a few posts back).

The problem is that the current production companies want someone with appeal, particularly at the foreign box office...which defacto means no unknowns.

Hollywood is sinking their talons into our Jack, for better or worse.

Ok lets see so we're looking for someone that possesses all of the below

1. The everyman look
2. US and Overseas Box Office appeal
3. Relatively unknown
4. Can show a wide array of emotions

How bout District 9's Sharlto Copley who will very soon appear as Howlin' Mad Murdoch. Overseas? I think he has some of that covered. One problem... he's in his late 30's...

How about Joshua Jackson (Peter Bishop in Fringe)?

just mentioned on another thread but how bout Jeremy Renner? He reached acclaim with Hurt Locker but also played Jeffery Dahmer and I remember him most from Senior Trip. He's unknown and I think he could rock it. Check him out on IMDB... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0719637/
