Bluesman Mike Lindner Wrote:I'm 56, Scott. And back when I was a little guy, my little pals and me looked up to guys like John Wayne as heroes. Guys to be like. But now--and I'm not sure how it happened--the idea of heroism in American culture is dead. The Western settler is an opressor. The lawman is a corrupt lackey. The military man is a tool of American Imperialism. Et cetera.

Maybe, just maybe, the disasters President Obama is bringing upon the Republic of the West will evoke new heroes to help the country survive his fecklessness.

I like to think that. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Jeez, Blues! You're 56? I'm 56 also. When are you going to get a real job?Wink

Then out spoke brave Horatius, the Captain of the Gate: "To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late; And how can man die better than facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his Gods,"
"Well, John Henry said to the Cap'n, "A man ain't nuthin' but a man. But, before I let that steam drill beat me, gonna die with my hammer in my hand, Lawd, Lawd, gonna die with my hammer in my hand."

North to Alaska is somewhat similar to McClintiock. It has that sort of tongue in cheek feel to it.

Those heroes of the past are more popular than they've been since the height of their careers.

If they would ever make a movie based upon "Ride The Dark Trail", it would probably become my favorite. Logan Sackett was hell on wheels!

I loved all of the miniseries in the "Gus and Call" series. Lonesome Dove was the best of them, but Comanche Moon is a damn close second. Cool

Wait... did you ask what is My Name is Jack?
Oh well I will tell you. It is the novella I have written that is open to be read by any and all who would like too.

Hey Irishkkc, I remember we tried this once and my computer couldn't open the files. I would be willing to try again. Smile If you still have my e-mail, just send it there.

I will try again I believe I still have it. I am trying to rewrite it but it's not working out right now. I am going to try again now.

Thank you for giving me the attention I so crave. When we take back our country, I'll be sure to save you a great seat at one of our casinos. Wink

1. McCabe and Mrs. Miller--overlooked great movie. (also The Ballad of Cable Hogue)
2. Major Dundee--typical overblown western epic, but my kind of epic
3. El Dorado--young James Caan in early role
4. Lonely Are the Brave--modern take on the western, similar in endings to The Ballad of Cable Hogue
5. Any f---ing Clint Eastwood movie
6. Any f---ing post Eastwood Italian western as long as Ennio Morricone is doing the soundtrack

AC

P.S. Ennio Morricone will be in concert at the Hollywood Bowl in November. It would be insane to miss this concert.
