This is hysterical, Hitler as a raging Fanboy. If you're a Watchmen fan you Have to see this, or if you've ever been pissed off at a Hollywood adaptation of one of your favorite books. Brilliant.

"I wanted to watch the squid in all its glory while wearing my Rorschach costume."

Hilarious. And so true to what's going on at fanboy sites like io9. Jeez, whining about the squidless ending. I always thought that was the weakest part of the gn. The whole end-game scenario was lifted from either a TZ or Outer Limits episode (don't remember which) and, although I accepted it, I remember feeling let down. Most of todays' fanboys have invested a few hours reading the gn. I invested a year, buying each new issue as it came out, and I expected something better.

That is far beyond funny. Poor fanboy Hitler. "Those who are not fanboys leave the room" Big Grin I'll have to see just how different the ending is.

Ok that Watchmen cartoon was so cool. And not really too far off, I loved how in the 80's they would turn R rated movies into kids cartoons. Rambo and Police Academy spring to mind.

Ok as someone who read the individual issues first as well. Then the GN, and then again the oversized Absolute edition. My thoughts on the squidless ending. I just saw the movie and it works as a movie. 10 years ago I probably would have agreed with you on the gn. But the last time I read it, it clicked for me.
The "artists" that Veidt kidnapped to create the squid threat weren't that great. They were second rate comic book writers, one of which was the author of Tales of the Black Freighter. The fact that the best they could come up with was a scenario "lifted" from a TZ or Outer Limits was the point. Imagination should be mankind's deadliest weapon but if it runs dry steal someone else's ideas and fake it. It was a very subtle jab at the industry and the second rate creators rehashing the same stories again and again. Replace the squid w/ Starro, or Skrulls, or ... It might've been too subtle and because it was a comic book people took it at face value. Which I did at first. It could also be that I love the work so much that I, after three readings. found a way to make the ending work better without changing it
BTW: I know you've had a letter published by "Affable Al" in 1963. How did that come about? Did you get an advance copy? Know Alan Moore or someone that worked at Image. Just curious.

I know Steve Bissette pretty well and he knew I loved the 1963 series. We were hanging out at a NECon and he said they were looking for letters to the editor. Could I write one? I came up with the alliteration allergy and Alan ran with it.

Isn't that like cutting off your nose to spite your face though? He'd rather take a jab at the industry than finish his story properly. Moore seems a bit nuts to me.

The giant squid with the cloned psychic brain is definitely stooopid, but considering the lengths they went to making everything else as similar as possible to the comic, taking such liberties with the ending was a bit daft.

That video of Hitler pretty much sums up what Sorrel had to put up with all the way home from the cinema. :mad2:

I accidentally dropped a load of worthless change in the street. I was going to just leave it there but a burly policeman lumbered towards me and said, "You'd better pick that up, son."
