I don't go on Twitter all that often because I always end up spending way too much time on it when I do log in. It's a neat way to connect with people in real time. Kind of like a gigantic instant messenger program.
A bit of advice - I found it much easier to see the latest tweets from people I follow, also to track replies and direct messages using TweetDeck (http://www.tweetdeck.com/beta/). Otherwise the tweetstorm can be overwhelming.
