Was surprised to not see a thread about this yet, was wondering what everybody thought?

I really enjoyed it was going into it thinking it would have been an overhyped movie that was just ok, but it really surprised me and I liked it. The early parts were light and some parts were funny but overall it was sort of a hear warming movie. I would recomend it IMO it was very good. I still want to see The Wrestler and Butten(expecting this to not be that good similar to how i fealt about this movie) but I can understand why this won best picture at a few awards already.

I think it's the structure that makes it work -- how every question on the quiz show triggers a flashback that illuminates his harrowing past. A straight-forward telling would be nowhere near as effective. Add to that the surreal poverty and filth and mistreatment of India's underclass and you've got a nigh-on unforgettable film.

I thought the exact same thing. I think the scene where he gets the autograph near the beginning may be one of the most cute/disgusting/funny scenes i have seen all wrapped up in one. Big Grin

I just got done watching Slumdog Millionaire, and I thought it was nothing short of amazing. Just amazing.

How many vikings does it take to change a light bulb?

None. The light from the burning monastery is more than sufficient.

Today I saw Slumdog Millionaure, and I thought it's GREAT! I realized this film deserved to Oscar Best Motion Picture.

The best Best Picture winner I've seen in a long time and I agree completely that the structure of the movie is what truly catapulted into greatness. This is not to say that everything else about the movie was poor, in fact I liked everything about it. I was transported to a foreign world and it made me realize that I have very little to complain about in my life. All the accolades this film is receiving are deserved.

And I don't see her as Kolabati, Frieda Pinto is a stunner; I could have watched her all day.
