I'm beating my head against a brick wall here, trying to figure out what I feel like reading. The most recent things I've read are:
1) a whole stack of FPW's medical thrillers (nearly guaranteeing that I will never set foot in a doctor's office or hospital again, ever)
2) Re-read The Exorcist
3) Two of Charlaine Harris' southern vampire novels (not high literature, but fun anyway)
4) 2nd Chance by James Patterson
5) Messenger by Edward Lee (which I read in less than 24 hours, and I'm still not sure if it was good, or a train wreck that I couldn't stop looking at)

I tried some H.P. Lovecraft, but it's really not at all what I'm in the mood for. I have no idea what I'm in the mood for, really. Anyone read anything great lately? LOL

Read A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. Not sure why that popped into my head. Wink

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.
~ Howard Phillips Lovecraft

Ever read James Ellroy? Joe Lansdale and I had a long, rambling conversation at Horrorfind and Ellroy came up. Joe hates him for reasons he could make clear to me (maybe it was the beer). I think Ellroy iss amazing.

Try either The Black Dalia or American Tabloid. They could have been written by two different authors, but both are amazing. They fall apart here and there as he loses control, but on the whole they're quite a reading experience. He also wrote LA Confidential which I saw on the screen but haven't read. Warning: He's a cynical son of a bitch. Makes me look like Anne of Green Gables.

On the Lansdale subject, if you like moral pretzels, hunt down a copy of Cold in July.

More later. Maybe.

I just read The Vanishing Man by Jeffery Deaver, which was really good.
Today I finished Childhood's End by A. Clarke which didn't quite end like I thought it would, although the build up was pretty tense. And I should finish For whom the Bell Tolls by E. Hemingway tomorrow, what can I say, A Classic, although I made myself start it, I think it will turn out well.

I actually haven't read James Ellroy. That might be good place to start. Thanks. Big Grin
