Well. I sure didn't see what happened on last night's episode coming.

You know, I've always liked Jimmy Smits... but until this season of Dexter, I really don't think I was fully aware of what an amazing actor he is. Seriously scary.

The only roles I've seen him in have been good guy roles. This is the first time I've seen him play a bad guy.

No shit. Who's going to rescue Dex? I figured there would be a confrontation but I thought it would be more on Dex's terms.

That he is.

It never does go the way I think it will and that makes for great viewing.

He has certainly come a long way, not that he was ever terrible or anything.

Season 3 has turned out much better than the first couple of episodes led me to believe it would; its got its claws in me good.

I fucking love this show...~!!! I was actually surprised by sundays episode ending, and Id missed a certain viewpoint within the episode that my brother who is an artist and filmer pointed out to me. All I can say is holy fuck, showtime sure knows how to leave me on the edge of the couch with anticipation. As to Harry being truelly responsible for Dexter being what he is,a sociopath of a serial killer, I believe the fault does not lie with him. As we got to see Dexter growing up in the few episodic flashbacks, he truelly believed that he was different because he craved killing, as we saw him almost knife his school bully. Though Harry intervened. Harry taught Dexter as he did to sate his urges for murder, and so he had him target only those deserving of death, the truelly guilty. It was to keep Dexter safe, and even after that Harry couldnt bear what hed helped grow in Dexter and so trurned from him in a way... Also it was confirmed by DNA match that Joe Driscoll was Dexters bio-dad. Dexter is a killer in the sense that he takes life, which is looked down upon and pursectuted by society. Dexter purifies all he kills though in my opinion, he never touches the innocent, so he really is a vigilante in the same league as Batman. I loved that ending of the first season in his fantasy sequence of his own parade when everyone he knew was smiling and thanking him, hailing him for murdering his own brother, the Ice Truck Killer,Brian Moser. If you look closely and can see underneath his suave and slick exterior, although he pretends to be the same as Dexter,Miguel is Dexters exact opposite in almost every way. Dexter is cold, calculating and in control, Miguel is heated, impatient and lets his passion totally direct his actions, like taking a souvenir(sp?) from Ellen Wolfe, her wedding ring,or at least one of them. Not to say that Dexter isnt passionate, hes just unused to feeling emototion and like a lot of people it probably scares him, because now he has something to lose, Rita and the kids. Also did anyone know that Rita is Ursula from George of the Jungle? Man, I wish Brian was still alive,or at least a kind of influence in Dexters life, like Harry is in Dexters mind. I thought her character is annoying and too emotional, but she is a woman torn in many direction, but I have to say Jennifer Carpenter is an amazing actress, and I cant wait to see what she can do in Quarantine...Im relived to hear theres another season coming too...

I don't mind Rita that much. If she'd stayed fairly weak, she'd have been very annoying. I like that she grew tougher as the series continued.

Deb maybe? I can't quite visualize how that would work, but it would be some nice symmetry.

ghaleon23 Wrote:I have to say Jennifer Carpenter is an amazing actress
She was fan-freaking-tastic in The Exorcism of Emily Rose and I ADORE her as Deb. She got off to a bit of a rocky start but she is owning that role now.

And as far as Dexter and Harry goes - I've thought about it a lot (more than I should, probably). I get that he figured Dexter would not be able to control the urge to kill, but I keep thinking there's this thing called therapy. I suppose that he figured that even with therapy there was the possibility that Dexter would snap one day, so he should channel that urge into something more productive. But sometimes I really feel that underneath all that, Harry saw an opportunity for something he would have wanted to do himself, but didn't have the stomach for. The fact that he didn't even TRY to solve Dexter's problem via conventional means makes him at least partly responsible for what Dexter is today - if not completely responsible.
