If he has to use it, and the bullets are recovered, they would be traced to the bullets recovered in the subway incident in HOSTS.

While completely true, there is almost no weight to the gun to absorb the recoil. In my experience, the heavier the weapon the better able I am to manage the recoil, although, of course, wrist alignment and tension play huge rolls in this as well.

Also very true, but there are things which sometimes just can't be accounted for. The harsh recoil of the 338 Winchester Magnum for example. There other cartridges that are more powerful, but don't have as harsh a recoil as the 338 Win Mag.

The Derringer that I rechambered from 45 ACP to 45 Colt (the 1873 cartridge) ended up -- according to the owner -- having recoil which stung his hand, whereas in its original chambering, it was comparatively mild.

So, you never know until you actually try it.

You want huge? The Beretta 92 series and all it's decedents. OMG. Hiding that thing is impossible.

Nearly impossible -- it depends on what kind of clothing you're wearing, but I know what you mean, it's a very large gun. Then again, nearly any gun with a double-stack magazine is going to be fairly large -- wide at least. The S&W 59 series have a double-stack mag, and they're fairly large as well, even though they have a barrel that's one inch shorter.

Ken, a question for you.

I am actually currently shopping for a compact 1911. Shorter barrel than the officer's model, and relatively inexpensive. Any you would recommend?

I have decided to move away form my old carry standard of 9mm to 45, but want something ultra compact. I know 45 makes it difficult to find this with a decent magazine capacity, but still want 6+1, or at the very least 5+1.

What would you recommend?

I don't have any recommendations. The Officers Model has the shortest barrel -- 3.5 inches -- of any 1911-type handgun.

Its flatness is not something to consider in comparison to its width, and the 1911 is a fairly wide gun.
