As for Legion's point, not being a huge Batman fan myself: [spoiler]It was time for him to go. He could not have added anything to future movies (he had a clearly defined role), and he gets to die a hero. This is the most important part. "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villan." This says it all, imho. It was a fitting end.[/spoiler]

If you have read this thread to this point then I assume you are not worried about spoilers. You have been warned.
Just came back from seeing it...a relentless tour de force is the only way to describe it. If you like action movies but are not normally a super-hero movie kinda person, don't worry...you will like this movie; Batman/Bruce Wayne is almost a supporting character. He is off-screen for almost as many scenes as he is on-screen.
Jack Nicholwho? I had chills on more than one occasion when the Joker was on the screen; he's that well-rendered. No wonder Leger had so much trouble sleeping after this part...wow! Everything that Jack did, Heath improves upon by several orders of magnitude. This is not your daddy's Joker. This is Lecter, in makeup, with a god complex. This is the Joker that shot Barbara Gordon in the stomach with a shotgun when she answered the door in The Killing Joke .
Plus, there is the entire Harvey Dent/2-face story arc (done properly); inklings of the Oracle storyline; an homage to the Night-Wing storyline from Nightwing; Jim Gordon becomes Commissioner; Scarecrow makes an appearance; some amazing and poignant comments on human nature in general...and yet it all works marvellously (or is that DCliciously). Chris Nolan executes his screenplay to near perfection.
And through it all, the James Newton Howard/Hans Zimmer score perfectly complements the tempo of the film (although in my local theatre some of the dialogue got lost in the music near the end).
I was incredulous at its 9.7 rating on IMDB...after seeing it, the only thing I can compare it to is the quality of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy in scripting, directing and acting. I now have to go and re-rate all my other "10" ratings on IMDB. This movie is the new measuring stick for all action/horror movies.
I hope and pray that Chris Nolan is already, or becomes in the near future, a Repairman Jack fan. How 'bout it Beacon? Have you talked to him yet. Hurry the hell up!

I watched this movie last night. A soldier had downloaded it off the internet and he gave me a copy.
It was, by far, the best Batman movie to date. The scenes with the Joker really stole the show, especially his mannerisms outside the Gotham hospital...he didn't have to say a word in that scene...his actions were enough. Ledger did a fantastic job as the Joker. Now with that being said...I don't think his performance was Oscar-worthy. Yes, he was great, yes he really got into the role, but to me it just didn't seem to be enough. But then again, I don't vote for Oscars (hell I don't even watch them) so if he gets one even though he's dead, no skin off my back.
I thought the Harvey Dent character was great as well. I only wished that his transformation to Two-Face took place sooner in the film. I think more could have been done with that character if this had happened.
I saw Batman as more of a supporting character since the Joker and Two-Face/Dent really made the movie what it was. Even though we saw his transformation to "The Dark Knight" it just seemed a little forced at times.
Overall, I'd give the movie a 8 out of 10 because regardless of what IMDB says The Dark Knight is NOT the greatest movie ever made, IMO.

I loved this movie as well. I think Heath Ledger did a great job but I don't think Aaron Eckhart got near enought credit. I thought he did a great job. Could've done without the overly-gravaly voice of Batman. I don't remember it being that bad in the first one. I plan on going to see this one again after some of the hype dies down.
I haven't seen it yet, but maybe they could put an effect on Bale's voice to make it sound more menacing. I thought his voice sounded a little forced in the first one and it would make sense that a guy who has access to a ton of technology who wants to appear as menacing as possible to use some sort of harmonizer that makes him sound scarier. If they stay faithful to the mythos, some people think Batman is a monster who eats people.
They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.

But anybody with half a brain should be able to figure out who the Batman is, too.

And, of course, I think they were a little too fast to kill off Harvey Dent, and his transformation into Two-Face was one of the best expositions of a descent into madness I've ever seen on screen...the only comparable one I can remember is George C. Scott in "Rage".
All in all, it was wonderful. I can't wait for the next installment.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this but theres some rumers of some talks for people to play villians in the third film. Supposedly the producers are going after Johnny Depp to play The Riddler (would be interesting) and Phylip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin (this one I don't really believe because Nolan has said he's never liked the pengiun but who knows.)
Anyways am I the only one who still thinks Two-face is alive? I strongly believe he didn't fall from a high enough place to kill him, and it would just make more sence that they would say hes dead and hide him away in arkham then have to explain what he had done and who he had become. Plus i'm pretty sure I heard that they had plans for a third movie where the joker would return but they don't want to recast the role so they were going to make it a more two face central movie.

The more I think about it I have to agree with you completely on this. I hope its right. It would be a shame to waste such a great "bad guy" on such a short time.

Today was the excited day. I saw "Incredible Hulk" and "The Dark Knight"!!!
First I saw Incredible Hulk, then I saw The Dark Knight. I enjoyed both of them, but I prefer The Dark Knight, of course. I can say so far The Dark Knight is the best film in this year. Definitely better than Indiana Jones. Running time was 152 min? I can't believe it. Even if it was 3 hours or 4 hours, I would enjoy it without tiring.
And it was also better than "Batman Begins". TDK was Very heavier and darker, excellent story, and all actors are great performers, especially Heath Ledger's Joker was ultimate. He was better than Jack Nicholson IMHO. Nicholson is great actor, but his Joker was silly. But Ledger's Joker was insane! Now he's exactly Joker. Ledger's death was too bad...

Anyway, in my guess, the next Batman movie's title would be "Batman Fugitive". Really I can't wait!
