Barry Lee Dejasu Wrote:The Last Holiday. You bet I think this underrated! Queen Latifah is charming and funny, and Gerard Depardieu is just magnetic (not to mention their scenes together in the movie are better than the "official" romance between her character and that of LL Cool J). And so it's a remake - this is an example of when remakes can be good.

We watched this last night and I must agree; very charming and well worth the rent.

I watched a couple of solid dramedies yesterday that had enough love story to post here so both French Film and Nothing Like The Holidays are worth watching. FF is the more romantic of the two, it is a tale of new love being born from the ashes of relationships of couples who settled for convenience rather than love. NLTH is the Puerto Rican version of the dysfunctional family holiday movie. The solid ensemble cast is fun to watch and the story offers enough surprises to keep it fresh. I liked them both quite a bit.

I put it here because it is a tiny little movie that probably won't be seen by anyone but I liked it a lot. The sassy weather girl has a meltdown on air that throws her life into a whirl. She has to move in with her brother and meets his slacker buddy. It's smart, well-acted and a bit grittier than most rom-coms well worth the price of a rental.

I also think Ryan Devlin(the brother)could do RJ justice. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1682673/ He looks a bit older than that particular picture.

A lot of people hate it(not sure why) but one that I love, and is one of my favorite movies, is Garden State. Absolutely love it and it made me aware of the band The Shins.

I actually think so. Big Grin The movie came off as so sweet to me. I was dissapointed by his second movie in The Last Kiss. I really think he captured something in Garden State. The innocent love and troubled lives trully come across. This movie is so good, and it's one of those movies that I actually liked it more the more I saw it.

The song from the movie where he says "It will change your life" also did the same thing. :p It started me on a whole alternative kick and got me into bands like The Shins, and Death Cab for Cutie and the likes.

For these two things this movie will always remain one of my favorites of all time. I REALLY recommend it!

I think it happens to a lot of artists, they have their whole lives to create their debut and less than a year to try to recreate the magic. My favorite scene is when he has to get the cat scan with the permanent marker drawings all over him.

As for the music, the whole soundtrack is good. "New Slang" is the song on the headphones and it was also my introduction to The Shins. Overall I like them better than Death Cab but I think Plans by DCFC is brilliant. Another really good soundtrack for this kind of music is Veronica Mars.

I think my favorite scene would have to be the Knight scene. Where he first wakes up at his friends apartment, and the cameo by Sheldon. Big Grin

Absolutely agree with you on Plans, such a good CD! I would say I like DC more the Shins but that may only be bacuse I wasn't a big fan of their newest album.

I have not cared for anything else by DCFC though outside of a couple of songs. The Shins are just a bit more consistent IMO, although I thought they had broken up. I've been listening to Jupiter One recently and I'd say they play in the same vein so you may enjoy them. http://jupiteronemusic.blogspot.com/
