What's this? A DD director's cut? Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies. I never saw Butterfly Effect; Ashton Kutcher is a powerful deterrant for me, and I couldn't imagine sitting quietly with him onscreen after seeing "Punk'd" the first and last time.

Donnie Darko got a director's cut theatrical release which is a bit surprising considering the movie flopped at the box office (though it did find its audience in the rental market). New Market was happy with the rental earnings thus gave money to the director to re-shoot, re-edit and add some special effects to the film totaling approx. 20 minutes of new footage. As for specifics I couldn't tell you as I have yet to see the new cut nor has anyone posted anything on-line about it.

Hopefully it doesn't take anything away from the original though.

Donnie Darko: Director's Cut

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

At last I saw this movie in theater, today.

This was awesome. Story was very touching. It reminded me of another movie, Frequency. Also that was good movie. Anyway, as everybody said, Ashton Kutcher was pretty good in this movie(I don't think he is good for Jack, though).

I didn't read about Director's Cut in this thread. I'll wait DVD.

The Director's Cut has a different ending which I HATED.

For the record, I think Frequency is a much better movie. Wink
