The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

My very first thought on seeing that coffin was that Locke was in it. I agree that few if any of the survivors would turn out for him. But I can't see him leaving that Island. If he did, good lord, he'd be a walking misery. Well, not a walking misery, he'd be a misery on wheels.

We don't get the 'coming attractions' clip over here in Sunny England.

Ha! That made me laugh out loud! Big Grin

But I don't even think Locke would be hated so much that no one would go to his funeral. Don't forget, Hurley sees the good in everyone and he's a confirmed 'Oceanic 6er', so for him not to go, it would have to be someone truly evil... or maybe someone who'd shot his girl.
I don't know, I think maybe we've still got to see something truly bad. Maybe it all comes down to why there are ony six 'survivors' and the person in the coffin is the reason not everyone gets home. If someone (and I can see Locke doing something like this) pulled some nefarious stunt that meant only a handful could go home just so that he could stay... then yes, I could see that nobody would want to go to the funeral. (Even though, if he stayed, he obviously wouldn't be in the coffin, but hopefully you see what I mean!)
But from what we've seen so far.... no, I have to say I'd be very surprised if nobody - especially Hurley - would turn up.

We barely get LOST at all, let alone any extras! Last year, the Virgin group bought out one of the UK's main cable TV providers and propmptly locked horns with SKY, the UK's biggest satellite TV provider.

Sky are part of Murdoch's media group, and their flagship channel SkyOne has the UK rights to braodcast Lost and a bunch of other American programmes (24 etc). Apparently they tried to charge Virgin Media an arm and a leg for rights to their channel, presumably trying to exploit the fact that only a maniac would not offer Sky One on their network.

Unfortunately, Sir Richard Branson is that maniac.

So that means that most/a lot/some/can't be bother to google the actual number/certain people can't watch Lost AT ALL! Consequently, neither Sorrel nor myself have any idea whatsoever about what's going on in season 4, and have not seen a single episode, because we believe that downloading content off the internet is piracy and funds terrorism etc. . . Wink

I am most jealous of the versions of the programme that have pop-up windows of info on them that Maggers described. That sounds like a real good way of fueling your nerd gland, without spending hours exercising it on the internet.

I think that Locke has a long way to go before he hits rock bottom, but I think once he pulls himself back he's gonna be unstoppable.

I was listening to the Lost podcast the other day, and they were talking about Locke in terms of the tropes of a priest/man of faith in literature. Whenever a man of faith is handled in literature, his journey is usually one of a crisis in faith. He starts off with believing on something for the sake of it (Locke can walk = Locke thinks the Island is magic) then something happens which puts his faith to the test (Push The Button) which leaves his faith in question (The Pearl/whether the button is just some rubbish Dharma experiement). He then comes back from this period of doubt and depression with renewed faith and vigour (Walt appearing to him and healing his wound after Ben shot him, to go forth on his current ego-rampage).

After failing to find Jacob's cabin, he is obviously in some trouble still and if he does start to trust Ben a bit more the only thing for certain is that things are gonna start going wrong again. His crisis may not be over yet, and he is atarting to unravel infront of the people who have sided with him. I think he is going to make himself incredibly unpopular before he gets any breaks.

But like I said before, once he has hit absolute rock bottom I think he will find Jacob and/or the answers to the riddles that have plagued the series and he will become some sort of prophet. Maybe not powerful in the sense that he can fire lazer beams out of his eyes, but I reckon he'll stay on the island and live or die with it. Even if his body does end up in that coffin at some point, I doubt Locke would ever leave the island . . . !

If by unstoppable you mean the Locke we came to know and love (at least I did) in the first year, the hunter/Mr. Mysterian/quietly quirky character, well, I'd be delighted to see him that way again.

I have an awful feeling that Locke might be the cause, either accidentally or not, of Claire's death. Someone said (was it you?) that Claire is not mentioned in any flash forward so far. That opened my eyes. I have no idea if something will happen to Claire, I just have a bad feeling. I guess that would be based, too, on the fact that her child (or a baby we think is Claire's child) winds up off the Island with Kate.

I don't remember seeing it talked about here, but it seems very likely Ben may be responsible for the fake plane and bodies the underwater divers found. I'm really curious to know Ben's story.

Yes, the cute but stern captain of the freighter (cute counts! Big Grin) said that was why Widmore was so eager to get ahold of Ben...to find out about that staged deep sea crash site. Ben seems to be connected to megabucks, which to me translates to government support. He also has unbelieveable informational contacts, which also, to me, translates to government support.

But who knows....
