Saw it last night in previews. Awful. Just awful. Turning The Producers into a play worked, and worked beautifully. But this...

I wanted to like it. I love the film and had high hopes for this, but it doesn't work. No, that doesn't quite capture it. It was painful.

I hadn't heard that it was going to be turned into a play. So if it is that terrible, who did they get for the lead??

That's too bad, but I can't say I'm surprised. Did you stay through the entire show?

Years ago my mother used to say to me... "In this world, Elwood, you can be oh so smart or oh so pleasant."
Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant.
You may quote me.

Should have. But after driving in through a monsoon, I wasn't about to leave early.

The only one I've ever heard of is Megan Mullally, and she had maybe twenty minutes max on stage (out of a 2-1/2 hour play).

I can imagine it's awful. I can't imagine Young Frankenstein without Peter Boyle! Sad

So a bunch of unknowns basically, in a terrible play....doubt it will boost any careers much.Rolleyes hope you didn't waste to much cash!

So true! I also think a lot of the movie's humor came from being filmed in black & white and all soft-focus like the classic horror movies of the '30s and '40s. There's no way to get that same tongue-in-cheek homage from a live play.

Sounds like it was not a very good idea to even attempt it. Rolleyes

I don't usually agree with the critics (except in the case of "The Producers") so I'm waiting to see how this is reviewed (it's still in previews). I can't see them loving it, although many in the audience seemed to. Which I don't understand. There were laughs, yes, but mostly from lines that originated in the film.

No. Bought tickets at preview prices the day they went on sale. (Can you tell I really wanted to see it?)
