Catching the new TV trailer lately...everything new I see still looks top-drawer.

Click the link, tough guy.

Heard through the grapevine that some pundits are worried that Grand Theft Auto: the Movie is going to steal box-office from Iron Man (same release date).

If that actually happens, then I am really, really, really, really old.

WHAT?! GTA: the Movie? That's a joke, right?

Please tell me that's a joke, because if its not, I am soooo out of the loop on what Hollywood's coming out with...let me check imdb real quick.

Nope nothing except talk about GTA:IV coming out soon. That's a game, not a movie.

Help, I'm confused.

Checked my "grapevine" and the GTA that is coming out is NOT a movie, it is the 4th edition of the video game (the Monday prior)...guess the skinny is that the geeks will all either stay home to play it, or will be tapped for money from buying it, rather than shelling out for the Iron Man movie.

I thought that it was ridiculous that a GTA movie could outdraw Iron Man...but the day a video game causes a movie to flop is the day that I'm really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really old.

Dude, if I remember correctly, the video game industry has been outearning Hollywood for a couple of years now, (not including porn of course).

I blame it on all the junk that Hollywood throws out there. Basically if its not a comic book movie, a zombie movie, or a summer popcorn movie that features lots of explosions, (there's got to be explosions, or I won't go), I avoid the theater. If I absolutely MUST see a pompous pretentious movie, (The Constant Gardener or Syriana come to mind), I'll wait for the DVD. I go to a movie to escape reality for a couple of hours, to laugh, and to watch car chases. I know I'm intelligent. I don't need to talk about "Shadow of the Vampire being Hamlet-esque vis-a-vis the 'movie within a movie' being not unlike the 'play within a play' featured in said play." These people are as pretentious and full of themselves as wine people.

I'm sorry, but critically-acclaimed movies are almost never entertaining. Granted, some were, like Saving Private Ryan, (probably because of the explosions), Unforgiven, and Gladiator.

However I gave up on Hollywood when We Were Soldiers & Black Hawk Down got cheated by the Oscar people. And the reason they got cheated is simple. We Were Soldiers was cheated out of even being NOMINATED for an Oscar because it was a movie about Vietnam, and America wasn't the bad guy, (neither were the Vietnamese. It just told the story of what happened).

Black Hawk Down didn't get nominated for Best Picture, and Ridley Scott didn't win Best Director, because it was a movie about American soldiers at war with non-white non-Christian people, and we were the good guys. You KNOW that if it were a preachy Oliver Stone-esque movie making Americans out to be monsters it would have won every Oscar there was.

If you think Hollywood doesn't have an agenda, you're not only mistaken, you're naive. Sure, they'll put out whatever will make them money, but what is stated above speaks for itself.

Sorry rant over. Got to go.

Does Hollywood = makers of Grand Theft Auto?

Yeah, I ranted my way through my original point.

Video games are more popular because they DON'T try to be politically correct, they DON'T make you feel like you wasted your money, and for God's sake, their storylines are usually better than most of the garbage Hollywood puts out, (see Uwe Boll).

Well, Uwe Boll is certainly the lowest common denominator. I remember video games (Donkey Kong for instance) that had better plots than most of his movies.

So you are expecting that GTA4 will overshadow Iron Man and cut into its box office proceeds?

Avengers [Nefaria arc] was one of my first comics I collected as a kid.

Mike, you have just made my day. I envy you your talk with Jim Shooter. You obviously made as good an impression on them as you have on us.

It musn't have been a Monday. Wink

FPW, classic comics, music...I'm home.

Just read it again. The Vision flying up to the edge of the atmosphere and then letting himself drop. Classic. The last panel of #165 as Thor appears and throws his hammer at Nefaria. Priceless. The ensuing climactic battle in #166. Just awesome. I could go on and on. That era of The Avengers was just incredible. Unless you have an aversion to spandex (cough, cough) there's no way you can deny the superior storytelling from that period in The Avengers. Few comics have ever come close to it.

Or destroy it and drive everyone insane, kill us all, or something really nasty! Remember, Cthulhu for President, why vote for the lesser of two evils? Wink
