I'm for the narration myself, yeah Harrison Ford's reading was a flat monotone but it adds to the Sci-Fi Film Noir for me. Then again it's been almost 20 years since I've seen that version I'll have to see it again.
I think the snobbier view is that the Director's Cut is the best version, and that the Theatrical Cut is stoopid.
But I was very young when I first saw this movie, and although I was blown away by the visuals and the final scene, I must admit that I struggled joining the dots in a very esoteric storyline that was a little too mature for me to fully understand. I ended up very confused and therefore very bored
Years later I bought it on VHS and it was the theatrical version. Initially I balked at the narration becasue it is so terrible, but I must say I had an approximately 63.8% better understanding of what was going on than ever before.
Now when I watch the (superior) Director's Cut I feel I can only fully appreciate it because of the intertextual reference to the Thearical Version.
I'm really looking forward to watching the Final Cut, and finally getting to see the restored singing and dancing number at the end of the movie. :p
